It seems I went and got ahead of myself...
...and posted Drone before it was finished. It also seems that I've wasted some of your guys' time because you were kind enough to add the song to your station and I've now deleted it, and for that I'm sorry... it's a bit of a mess really. The good news is I have a new version which has been remixed with new parts and some very cool guitar work by Grega Habic. It's another international collab as he is from Slovenia. I've been very fortunate to meet some of the players I have via the internet. Anyways it's way cooler than the first version. :) I'd post a link right here but I don't know how to do that, how do you do that?
Again sorry to the stations that originally added Drone, I feel like a bit of a schmuck.
Cheers

Freakin killer tune man. . . ilove the inverted question answer statements of the predominant guitar riff throughout..makes for a far-out harmony not often experienced in western music - i love it man!!!
added you to rave review bro, glad i waited for the better version -i'm sure that once they give this cut a listen all will be forgiven.
Great job guys, absolutely killer tune!!!

Great work Jesse! The next time you want to change a mix, don't delete the song.
Just go to "edit songs" and click on the song you want to replace. When you get to the upload page with that song title on it, just click "choose" and add the new mix.
By doing so you won't lose all your plays and the song won't disappear from the stations that it's played on. The new mix will automatically change on the stations when they reset their songs or sooner if you inform them right away that you've changed a mix. Keep up the good work. You're really pushing the envelope!

Nigels, thanks! How'd you do that?
Tommy and Mr. E, thanks guys! Glad you liked it and cheers for the station adds, much appreciated. And Phlegm, you're the man, we both know it, double props for picking this nub up twice, well FOUR times really... you're rock brother. :)
Richard, dude! Ooh man, I had no idea. I REALLY wish I would have known that sooner, specially since Drone is doing so well... but it's OK. I learned something, that's pretty handy. Thanks a bunch for sharing that knowledge with me. And thanks for saying I'm "pushing the envelope" for I believe that is much of what I'm trying to do.
You guys are getting me excited about my music again! :)
Cheers

Hey Jess ...
... good start ... but a suggestion.
Add some low end shit ... there's no "beef" to it. It's all up top stuff ... mid range guitar-y ...
This is the type of sonic material that appeals to groinal regions ... but you've not added enough low freq titillation (bass/kick) to incite "excitement" in that area.
Ya know?
Just a thought, bud. Feel free to tell me to fuck off.
Best,
Kev-

Richard you make me laugh. :) Thanks for the step by step brother. I think I got it down now.
Kev, what do you mean? Add low end to what, like the guitar solo? or the whole track or what? The kick drum? Please enlighten me...
BTW your new pic looks so much different than your last, I didn't even realize it was you til like a week ago. :D

Hey J-
When approaching an arrangement/mix (for the two are closely related), there are certain expectations one anticipates when listening to certain genres.
For instance, one treats a country mix or jazz presentation quite differently than a pop mix or death metal band.
For instance, in country music ... well certain forms ... the vocal is sacred, and the rest of the mix slaves around the vocal center.
OTOH, as I said above, in this style of music ... the focus would be a really kicking rhythm section w/ LOTS of low end. That would mean a really driving drum section (accent on kick), along with a relatively prominent bass.
When I listened to this originally, my immediate thought was "there's not enough low air driving this the way it should" ... and I mentioned it accordingly.
The guitar work is terrific, but if there is other stuff going on ... this is what is normally referred to as "a guitar player's mix" ... all about in face guitar and little appropriate attention paid elsewhere.
It's not hitting the pump in the way it should.

So really what you're saying then is in your opinion it needs more kick. OK got ya. For the record I play several instruments and do not focus everything on the guitar and blow everything else off. I've spent a lot of time practicing mixing and I try to balance everything as best as I possibly can. The reason being if there is too much kick it's distracting and drowns out the song too much... there's several layers in this song if you really listen. I don't believe in putting the focus on one thing... I believe you should be able to pick up and listen to all the parts... the focus should be on everything. This is how I treat every mix for any style.

Exactly, Jesse ... and lock the bass in tight w/ the kick.
btw, bud ... when I said, "Guitar Player Mix" ... I wasn't referring to you being a guitar player specifically ... the term is just commonly used for a certain mix sound ... one where the guitars are featured prominently ... I meant it de_scriptively, not as a criticism.

I don't think a heavy kick drum would work in this song. It would dominate the timing of the song and take away some of the fluidity of movement. It would root the song into a beat that is too precise and clunky. But I agree that maybe little a more bottom could be provided by the bass guitar. You could just tweak the EQ overall to bring out more bass frequencies without actually having to remix the whole thing. It;s refrshing to see somebody writing songs outside the box. It makes me want to do that too! I love the guitar work. It's like Hendrix meets Metallica! (with some Ozzy thrown in)

"I don't think a heavy kick drum would work in this song. It would dominate the timing of the song and take away some of the fluidity of movement.:
I agree. When the kick is too loud at least on my cheesy keyboard drums, it tends to dominate the timing like you said, ending in a mechanical result. To me, when it's mixed in with the song a little more, it brings out the more natural flow of the song and sounds more realistic. Besides I listened to it again, IDK man IMO it sounds about right... although I'll be doing some tweaking on my next song to bring the kick a little deeper and louder, but not much, just to make it a bit heavier. If it's a metal tune anyways. Maybe that's my problem I do too many different styles!
And thanks Richard for the kind words. :) Grega is a great player and quickly becoming a good friend. I hope to have much more work including him coming soon.
