IAC is really helping me along my way...
I'm really starting to think so.
For me, it's easy to feel like even though you put yourself out there on all kinds of musical websites, still nobody really notices. It's a topic that's been discussed here more than once. Getting lost in the sea of artists on the internet with no real way of distinguishing yourself from others besides a small stroke of luck and/or a favorable click of a strangers mouse. (I realize this point is debatable but bare with me).
Here it feels different. At first I thought that you had to be present on the pipeline all the time and get tons of station adds and do nothing short of waving your arms in the air and shouting at everyone to "Look at me!" to really get some decent plays. I was used to Myspace. Now it seems more like just a consistent presence over time is really what matters... in the right places anyways.
Take my song "Inverted" for example. IMO, kind of a crappy little experiment B side outtake sort of thing that's only on one station (which really doesn't count because it was made by a buddy and has only all my songs and a few others on it with no love in quite some time) but it somehow is my 6th most played song. I have some others that aren't on stations like "Stale" which is pretty popular and gets as much attention if not more than some of my other tunes that are on multiple stations.
That, to me, means there's a regular flow of outside listeners checking out my tunes, cuz I'm in the right spot.
Cool.

Great to hear this Jesse. There are some very talented and gifted people here, you being one of them who has put out some terrific compositions and having others take notice of them. critique and assist in even helping you step it up a notch is a part of the whole process......keep up the great work, songs and postings

Jesse, Yes you have to do a little hand waving to get noticed initially, but that only shines a spotlight. You then need substance to keep things going, your talent builds a reputation and people begin to seek you out...you my friend are there.
Keep up the Great work.

Thanks guys.
I'm not really sure why I rambled on about it in a blog... I guess it just needed to be said. Or typed however you want to look at it.
I feel a bit silly today about it, Im sure some think I'm fishing for compliments but that's not the case.
Just reflecting.

I did not think that Jessie, sometimes I think we all forget this is a personal blog and not a typical message board. We are free to post personal thoughts, it is cool when others add to it.
Regards,
Jeff

Jesse
you have made some intelligent observations and I'd like to add to those---
yes---a regular presence sets it up, and having friends like Phlegm and co helps
we had Kenny Colgate (the wizard) pick up "the Nobody" over 2 years back and it has had more plays than any of our other songs even though "GONDWANA" is on about 50 stations and the Nobody is on about 10-----
Also----I think there is a honeymoon period ---we joined end of 2006 and our peak was definitely early 2008----this may have something to do with numbers of visitors,
also we just aren't "new " anymore--
at it's peak "GONDWANA" had 10,000 hits----we'd be lucky to get that for all our tunes atm
your music speaks!!!

I've been active on a few indie music sites over the last year or so but am SO happy that I stumbled into IAC last month! I agree that this is a special site and is one of, if not my favorite place on the net....and I've heard some just plain amazing stuff here.
I really like the whole station thing...it's a great way to listen to new music. (and it's nice to be heard, too!)

10,000 plays? Good god man, that's a lot! I was be pretty stoked to see those numbers... this month was the first time I've broke the 4 digit barrier.
It is a cool place isn't it Sly? Glad you found you're way here.
