How often do you listen to your own music?
Me? Quite a bit, but I'm vain in that "I kinda hate myself" sort of way.

It's a bit of an extension of working on it. Sometimes it is working on it. I'd rather be working on it most all the time, but sometimes I can just listen to it.
ANd then something breaks and I'll lay off for quite some time.
But mostly it's something I do a lot...

I listen pretty often. I really don't enjoy listening to my recorded stuff that much though, as I tend to hear all the things I could have done better or sung in a different way etc etc.
Stuff I'm working on currently yeah listen to that all the time.

I have this curve with the music I record, at first I listen to a piece all week after it's.."done".
then I get so sick of it, the whole process of recording , mixing, and a week of sort of enjoying and critiquing and I suddenly cant stand the piece!!
usually I'll come back to it later, maybe a month, and then I find I enjoy it a little more..
the ones I enjoy the most are the ones from way back, 8 years or so, by that time I'm far enough away that I can listen without my ego and my doubt getting so involved and I can finally just listen.

Hi Jesse, it's been a while... how are you? Hello to everyone else as well.
You're thread triggered this question I've had tossing around in my head for quite sometime... never never kind of hit on it... during the creating process.... which I can understand... trying to get your work the exact way you want it to turn out. But what I'm wondering is for those of you who perform on a regular basis... once maybe more a week... do you become tired of your own music... wishing you didn't have to play that same song again. Or do you have enough material that you can mix it up a bit so it doesn't get mundane week after week?

Improvisation takes away the mundane aspect. Change the chords, in some parts change the rhythm or even the melody just a bit to make it fresh and new and different but familiar enough to be enjoyed by those who know the song.

Hi there, I listen to my new recordings loads.... older ones just now and then.
With new ones I often try it with different head phones and different volumes and in different places... like on the train (although I haven't done that for a while).
When we get back from a studio session, I put it straight on. I even mixed a bit of one song in a cafe in Tokyo at 8 in the morning, before going to a meeting later on in the day.
So "quite a bit" is OK in my opinion. Keep on listening and enjoy.

More that I would like too:)The production side of my music takes the thrill of listening to my own stuff pretty much out for me.I never counted myself, but I'm sure every self produced artist hears his own songs hundreds of times while working on them...
But I admitt;I get a kick out of it after not hearing a certain tune of mine for a couple of months:)Not all of them to be honest though haha...

Just like everyone poops...
Everyone masturbates.
I listen to my own music a couple of times a week.

I'll toss my CD in the truck player every other week or so. If me and the wifey go on a trip for a weekend, I bring a couple of extra copies and make friends with the locals. I'm proud of what I've done so far, but I'm always looking for ways to improve my stuff also. There's little riffs and song parts I've incorporated into my songs that I've been doing for years that's always been a part of me, so I don't mind listening to myself once in a while. But moderation keeps everyone around me sane.

not a lot lately, too busy-----
but I do listen to my sons new recordings a lot (Jake & Leo)
we are producing 3 CDS this year----- so it is detailed listening---for song order
and production---plus choosing suitable images to go with it!!

Hey Butterfly... I'm good, bad, busy... tired. Depends on the day. :)
Sometimes I get really sick of my music, especially if it's something that's been tricky getting right mix wise and I have to listen over and over before I get to where I want to be. But like previously mentioned, if I step away for a while, a few months, and come back to it I'll be like "Damn, this is pretty cool."
I kind of go through phases. Right now I'm listening a lot again because I've remixed and remasted quite a few tunes that breathed a lot of new life into them.
