Myspace friend adder bot?
OK, I mentioned this in another post somewhere, but does anyone know a good auto friend adder? I know I saw someone post this very thing awhile back, but I didn;t act on it then and now I am left wondering?

www.addnewfriends.com

This one looks great and lots of features. It just costs $30. I figure there must be a shareware version out there somewheres. Yes? No?

It's a complete myth that this is going to somehow help you sell CDs. Those bulletins aren't even looked at by most people. I know an excellent artist with 30,000 fake friends who spent a year accumulating clickers and not even using bots - who got zero results promoting her new record.

Might be useful if you're doing a big chain of gigs, that's where I hear the results are -but otherwise, why degrade yourself bowing to the gods of bullshit fake friends and Fox News?

Eh, I am just bored. Having lotsa friends on your band page is just fun I think. Personally I am just reuploading my songs to myspace so people can download them for free. I would just like people to hear my songs is all. I don't expect much in the way of cd sales really.

For once, I agree with fly about collecting huge numbers of 'Friends' in the hope of selling CD's.

But with your strong views about MySpace I don't understand why you have a presence there, or is that no longer?

I posted it a while back, not for people to buy, download, copy, or pirate, but to emphasize the level of corruption that the place is infested with,
If you really want you can find on ebay a bot that will fix your ebay stats to what ever level you can afford.
Or go google, rapidshare, and myspace friendblaster, then you get the freebie, and potential malware spyware etc......
But I'm not posting ne links to ne myspace ne mo

Ok, I do remember your posting now.

Yes, I do agree really. I also just wanted to try one out and see how much quicker it works to satisfy my own curiosity. I have found some very effective ones too. It's really no wonder that so many bands have a ton! of friends on their lists. It really doesn't mean anything. The only hope it that there are a few people adding you on because they are actually taking the time to listen to your song out of the dozens more that are just accepting your friend request to bolster their own numbers. And hopefully that one person downloads your song and listens to it now and again. It's good to keep my expectations low I suppose.

I think those sites that just add friends are the most boring ones on myspace----although I agree that some visitors will look at the numbers and be impressed!

It may help your numbers of hits though----- if you have an embedded player, but remember that people can now add and comment without actually going to your site-----I must admit I DID think about doing it myself when I first joined Myspace and had 12 friends---- hehe

What you speak of, Silverwood Studios, is exactly why the whole MO of the place is malevolent and outright creepy if you look closely. Think of how many teenagers get sucked into the self-esteem game of trying to get a presentable amount of friends. It is a repulsive gimmick when you look at it from this perspective. They create this arbitrary tallly which stares these kids in the face and then make huge ad dollars from the mad clicking that goes on to chase the fake grail. Of course it's different when consenting adults know what they're doing and still choose to seek fake friends for some projected promo benefit but it's sickening that Fox Media Corp is profiteering off kids' insecurities

I totally agree with Fly, the whole "friends" angle can become a little dysfunctional.

As for a Bot adding fake friends? I think that is rediculous and fraudulant....

Why not add some fake music while your at it?

What i find hard to understand about MySpace is that some well known artists such as Amy Winehouse can get 17,000 plays per day. It seems suprising that so many people would go to her myspace page to play her songs and not buy the CD and play it or play it on their iPod. I would have thought that it would be annoying to have to keep clicking to get the songs to play and Amy doesn't even put on whole songs, they are truncated. It just seems a strange way to be playing music. Also DirgeK's site often gets requests from artists who have hundreds of thousands of plays and I am sure they are not genuine requests. It seems that so many bands are using some gaming system so it makes the whole thing meaningless.

Thanks for the hint DT.

"As for a Bot adding fake friends? I think that is rediculous and fraudulant....

Why not add some fake music while your at it?"

Well, some of these bots can be very helpful. One I looked at allowed you to gather the friends list of whatever profile you are looking at. So, for instance, I went to an artist's page that has music I believe to be inspirational to my own music. I believe the people that listen to him might enjoy my music. So I can try and add all of them. Then move on to the next influence's myspace page and so on and so forth. In this way I can do my best to expose myself to the fans out there. Oh, and you can send a message with your friend request at the same time as well. You write up something respectful and hope for the best.

Of course, you end up with alot of friends who probably won't listen anyway, but that's just part of the game here, right?

I would think so many friends are added withouht knowing its kind of a worthless exercise. If you market to someone that does not know you, they may treat you like a telemarketer.

As for Bots, I have my suspicions that another music site I am on uses one to post bogus listens to my songs, thousands of plays.....I think this is to get me to keep subscribing and paying money. I am going to let it lapse.

Yeh, I used to get these friend requests and be baffled because they hadn't actually been to my site.

I find the friend requests actually offensive (based on that).

Let's just say they ask you to put a map locator to see actual visitors to your page. I have spoken to MANY who asked to be added and have actually listened to my songs. I use them every quarter or so to introduce new music.

I think that using bots or software to collect 'Fwends' devalues any community which may exist - It's then just a cold and impersonal numbers game.

I only send out Friend requests to those people/bands after individually checking out their Profile page to see if I like anything about them to either support or network. I only accept a Friend request after checking out their page and only if I like what I hear or read. I sometimes meet people who if they are on MySpace we later Add each other. I recieve quite a lot of private messages on MySpace and any ensuing exchange builds relationship.

It's extremely easy to avoid everything you want to avoid or ignore and to use MySpace to suit yourself. It's just another medium, just as IAC is, but IAC is more specifically focussed.

I find that when I check out an artist here on IAC, if they are also on MySpace, I'll initially go straight there because their MySpace page will communicate far more about them. Perhaps IAC should consider more personalisation of artist pages here.

Having read this thread, I cant help feeling like Ive been doing it the hard way. The way I use myspace is to search by 'musical interest'. I search for people who are into a band or artist that is similar to me, then message people individually explaining who I am and why I think they would like my music. I refer to the bands they have in their 'favourite music' list and suggest they check me out as it I beleive I would suit thier taste. I think people respond much better to this personal approach and youve got a better chance of actually picking up some fans. Although I only have a mere 280ish friends on myspace, this number does actually reflect in the plays and blog views I receive.

At the end of the day, having 4 million friends will not fool any record company who can blatently see you have had 3 plays and 1 comment in the last month.

Ps, theres a quicker cheaper and easier way to make it look like you've got heaps of friends. With a fairly basic bit of coding you can add the word 'million' or 'billion' after where it states your actual amount of friends and just before it reads 'friends', so basically, in my case, it would say '280 million friends' rather than 280 friends.
