How many songs on your page are too many?
I really want to take down a bunch of my songs. I think I have too many up there. It's just overload. Ok, I decided I am at least taking down the ones I can't stand anymore.......I think.
What about you? How many songs are on your page? Do you wish you had more? Less? Just right?
Sometimes, I think, "Well, if I delete songs, then those stations playing my songs will not only not have a song by me anymore, but I also won't have as many stations on my artist page showing. But I really wanna take some of these down. What a pickle!"
Am I insane?

Vartan..You shouldn't delete your songs!
Just go backstage and change the songs you don't want on your page to 'station only'..that way people who've put them on stations don't lose them.

Damn, I totally just went and deleted those songs. I was way too quick after posting that to go and cut the songs from my page. Thanks for the useful advice Steve. I guess, I will have to keep that in mind for future reference! I got all Jumpy McGee on the delete button there.

Damn, I did not know you could do that Steve! I am going clean mine up right now...Probably keep about five at a time up...
Ok how do you do that??? :) This is what I see on my song Edit list, there is no box for what Steve mentions.
ongID Songname Active Chartable Allow download Price Content Advisory Licensed Cover CD Preview
What do I check/uncheck and where do I find it? I can't find "station Only"
Thanks,
Jeff

Yeah, I probably should have done that, but the songs I took down were either rough unfinished versions or songs I really just can't stand anyway. Besides I still have a ton of them up there. Some of those songs will come back in a finished version soon.........

Instead of worrying about having too may songs on your page, maybe try being more selective about the songs you upload, that way you feel confident about the ones you do have on your page. ;)

You hit the nail on the head Jesse. That's why they needed to come down. I wasn't "feeling them" anymore so to speak. Ya know?

V, I do actually. I did the same thing. When I first got here I had a notion to post as many songs as I could to get it all out there... but then I realized some didn't really fit, and actually probably did more harm than good so to speak.

I don't know...I like having my songs up...I guess I like to put the most relevant ones at the top and the older ones further down....I don't like the idea of taking them down...but it's good you can change it to "station only" I guess after the first year your songs can't win any prizes on here anyways...

Station only sounds like the best option, once you pass 30 or 40 songs.
For OUR music though, to help SHOW the true diversity of what we do, we need to have a myriad of tunes up, so we don't get pigeon-holed into only "aggressive sounding" or "angry" music.
I've CAREFULLY considered which ones to put up, and which ones to keep up. Some of them are lo-fi quality, but I think the composition & structure of those ones is good enough to keep 'em up too. AND I think it HELPS your credibility as not just some kind of pitch-changing, bullshit studio wizard, when you have a few live tunes up. LIVE, once again is where a little rubber hits the road, for a performing musician, who wants to promote their music.
Everybody has to do what works BEST for what their trying to do with their own music promotion.
Like Hugh Hamilton, Todd of HOP on POP & many others out there, I've got literally close to a HUNDRED more tunes that didn't make the cut, just because they were TOO lo-fi, or TOO inaccessible. Man, if I had MONEY, the THINGS I could do! We've got dozens of songs ready to record, and dozens more that we only have shitty lo-fi versions of... so if I ever "make it", have my own studio, or find a sugar-daddy or mama I'll be putting up hundreds of tunes a year! DOH, scarry thought, eh? Never ending supply of Conversation Suicide tunes... haa.ahhhaaaa urrr... sorry.
But people like DATA THIEVES (chris in the UK of the improv & mixed stylin's) and Gremislav Yakovich are FEARLESS about accessibility. They could care LESS if the general population likes their music. (I dig these guyz IMMENSELY though, and have put almost ALL their tunes on my stations at one time or another!) Accessibility is in the eye of the beholder.
SOME people only want the songs that represent ONE type of sound, and worry about crossing genres. Or only want 'The best of the best", to ensure they won't look 'unprofessional' in any way. But everybody tells me I'm MOSTLY in the punk genre, and 'unprofessional', but well-done, is quite acceptable there.
Ya gotta do what works for you...
I suspect if the site will permit about 50 tunes, I'll get up to that and then start eliminating the songs that have generated NO interest for newer/better ones, that at least a few people like.
That's ONE Artist's plan.
COOL idea for a thread, by the way. Some good stuff up in here.

It can be difficult to decide which songs are really "you" I suppose. Cause I know I have songs that I listen to and think....what is this crap? Did this come out the way I intended? Anyway, the answer to that last question was "no" on quite a few songs I had up. So...see ya bad songs! Hello to all the goodies. Hehe
I hope yer dog is ok Silver!
