GIGS having a performance state of mind
GIGS
performance state of mind
this is something I teach as a music instructor and numerous times during the year I "surprise" students with a class devoted to presenting their material impromptu so to speak. I always preach, always be prepared, and once a song is perfected, maintain that performance state of mind.
anyways, what kind of state of mind do you carry with you, to your gigs, at practices and such. I have been at gigs where I have seen musicians have such class and good balance with the audience, yet sometimes I have seen some sloppy conduct with reasonable performances yet gain some so called entertainers display sloppy performances with poor on stage demeanor.
do you carry that performance state of mind. because it does project out of how you really are.
ensure to.maintain that professionalism
also be circumspect of how you conduct yourself at a gig, small or large. remember ,you are hired to do a job,( do you drink at your day job, I hope not) and do the very best you can. I dont know why some musicians think that they can just go wild with no thought of what others in the band or audience may think, so they, "toke up" get a buzz and get stoned. is that professionalism.no it aint, be balanced. stay with the program. show some respect and consideration to others and to yourself
I evaluate bands and performers how they carry themselves in this way, and have passed up on promising individuals because of their lack of self-control and doing shite at a club or gig or fest. I just wont promote a person who is unprofessional on stage, and is half cut and walks around with a drink on stage. of course some venues dont allow this, but the few that do, the y better get with the program and not allow alcohol on the performance stage. but then again, it does go on, but I tell ya, you sure can tell because the performance and entertainment quality deteriorates as the night goes on

I try to get into a trance on stage. An emotional trance. A small buzz is fine. Most of the time my eyes are closed and I'm looking for the best voices can find. If I sing too hard I suck. I'm trying to stay soft and trying to bear down on it when it's right but don't bear down too hard or I sound stupid, almost angry.
So that's where my head is at a gig: where's my voice? If I don't oversing, I will probably leave the gig feeling like I brought the real spirit.
I try to know my guitar real well, I want comfort so I can sing in a trance.
A small buzz is recommended.

I agree with you Bob, doing things in balance.being in the moment, nothing wrong with that, of course, what I was getting at as i guess you knew anyways, was towards unadulterated stupidity and lack of class
