Thoughts for the day
I think as musicians we get caught up in our own world and self importance. And may I say this, it is not a competition among one another, we each have something to offer.
Let's get over ourselves and look at supporting each other, many do, but I have seen some attitudes of a few who think they are better then others are, and perhaps even better in their own eyes then they really are.
So what is the point, the point is this, take off that musician blindfold you have on, unplug your prejudiced ears and listen to others music like a regular joe, and learn to be a real music lover. get over yourself. music is for fun and enjoyment. not this competitive thing I have seen, and lets support and assist each other to be even more successful. we all have a special gift. do the best you can with it, but for pete's sake dont think you are Gods gift to music and look down on others and because you think they dont have the chops you have, but they have something and maybe something you might need to incorporate in to your own musical life, humility and a willingness to work harder to get somewhere.
So dont think you got it or are better then your fellow musicians , that is really unacceptable.

Hear hear! It was listening to other musicians in a songwriting group of mixed levels and experience that so inspired me to carry on. And also here too - I must say I can't be bothered with people who only want to promote their own stuff without bothering to show an interest in anyone else.
That's why I think for artists here who have the time, it's really good to run stations as well as put your own music up (which is what you, me and many people do). That way you really do listen and learn from others as well as build a good rapport with other artists.

I agree 100% with both of you. I thought I was listening to a lot of folks music but once I finally started a station, I started finding so many gems I had missed or glossed over. I also have seen the "elitist" attitude that a few around here display. They may show up every now and then to boast about their new music, but they never really participate in the community forums. I mean, jeesh get over yourself and get into the discussion! Check out what someone else is doing and say something positive about someone other than yourself. I have noticed that most of us just ignore these egotistical people. Rightfully so I think!
The competitive thing is a constant annoyance. The fact of the matter is that in a way we are all competing to be heard. But we are all doing what we love with hopes that others may find some joy or connection with it. It is not about being better than anyone else. It is about being yourself and trusting that others will respect that. I like listening to other peoples music. I learn so much from it. Every now and then I am moved in a very special way by something that someone else has written or produced. Those are some very golden moments. A lot of people don't know what they are missing!
Much Respect,
