Bulgarian is a new song by Nigels and Raymond Porter
Bulgarian is a new song the Raymond and I have put together. The inspiration for the song came from an online conversation I had with a Bulgarian artist here on IAC called Sleepwalker perhaps some of you may have heard of him. Sleepwalker mentioned to me the difficulties he and other artist from the Balkans found in gaining exposure for their music.

This dialogue got me thinking of the barriers and hardships experienced by artists in regions affected by war such as the Balkans and elsewhere. Bulgaria has been through a difficult time, Bulgarian scientists and engineers are among the best in the world and at the time of its transition from a socialist economy employed thousands of world class professionals. Alas in the transition to a market economy most of these people became unemployed had had to emigrate to the west to find employment with the inevitable familial and social dislocation. Since its independence in the 80's with the collapse of the dictatorships and the Berlin wall over 800000 Bulgarians have traveled internationally to find work.

We believe that all people deserve love and respect. We believe that all immigrants are a precious gift. We love Bulgarian people culture and art. We dedicate our song Bulgarian to them.

Well done, guys! The music supports the vocals nicely (particularly the solo accents on 'flute' (?). The lyrics are excellent, but I wish more artists would put their lyrics on the song page. I'm an older geez, whose ears have borne the brunt of amplified instruments and drums at close proximity in small rooms, and it's difficult to catch all the words sometimes.

Nigel, you and Ray seem to have a great collab series going. Keep it up!

Nice work, guys! This is a very haunting song with a lovely melody and a great vocal. The flute solo works perfectly. Keep on pushin'

Thank you Nigel and Ray for this wonderful song!

Wherever we are the world of music is unique.
No borderlines, no barriers...
We only need to 'speak' music language...
and as well... understand what has been said...

So, you both do this very well!

Keep it doing!

Mila Kara

...

BTW, Sleepwalker is a musician of a high level...
He is a member of ASCAP(American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers) and that is well deserved!

Thank you Nigel for your great attitude to many of the cultures all around the world!

Bulgaria is famous for its folklor and cosmic voices!
One of the most popular songs was remixed by French composer and here is the video with this modern sound at the background :

The singer is Stefka Sabotinova and here are the words of the song:

Prituri se planinata
/The mountain came down/

"The mountain came down,
and buried two shepherds,
and buried two shepherds,
two shepherds, two friends.

The first one begs -
release at least me, my girl is waiting,
the second one begs -
release at least me, my old mother is waiting.

And the mountain opens,
they are two shepherds,
but a girl mourns only shortly,
and a mother mourns till grave."

Thanks again!

Mila Kara
