About Cheryl Powder
Cheryl's debut album, “Can’t Wait To Fly” has been long awaited by friends and fans. Cheryl co-wrote the title track with Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter, the late Harold Gay in 2003. With two exceptions, all the original songs on this album were penned by Cheryl or with a co-writer. Many of the songs lean toward the country genre and the originality makes it hard for comparisons with any well-known artist. You need to listen for yourself to appreciate this beautifully heartfelt, soulful voice.

Canadian born with indigenous roots and proud to be Metis (her maternal Grandmother, Martha Beebe, was a Cree Indian - her paternal Grandfather, Olafur Briem, a full-blooded Icelander), Cheryl started singing professionally at age 23 and toured western Canada and northwestern Ontario for eight years honing her vocal and guitar playing talents. Powder grew up as Cheryl Briem in the tiny northern Manitoba town of Wabowden, and ultimately ended up in the U.S. in 1997. She's been in Spring Creek, NV in Elko County since then and performs regularly for appreciative local audiences with her band, “Road Rash”.

Always busy performing cover tunes by the likes of (to name a few) Rosanne Cash, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Sheryl Crow, Cheryl finally had the chance to put together her own album of original songs with backing from her drummer husband, George Cothrun, and is extremely excited at finally having this opportunity to get her own music “out there”. It’s never too late to follow your dreams!

While on vacation in northern Manitoba, Cheryl introduced herself at the Cross Lake radio station and also at the NCI FM Aboriginal Radio station in Thompson. Within days her songs were being played locally. The excitement of hearing her music over the airwaves was electrifying and exhilarating. In a mere two weeks, on the August 23rd chart, her song ‘Burn’ erupted onto the National Aboriginal Top 30 Countdown in 28th position. The Top #30 is formulated by tracking national radio airplay, listener requests and the overall popularity of a song single. Today, in its second week, the song moved up to 26th place. Sep 6th moved up to 23rd.

Cheryl asks her friends and acquaintances to support her by making an Email request to countdown@ncifm.com to play her song ‘Burn’ from the album “Can’t Wait To Fly”. The National Top 30 Countdown can be heard live from 6:00pm to 8:00pm EST on Saturdays and Sundays by going to the website http://www.ncifm.com and clicking the Listen Live link in the top right hand corner.

Cheryl has several of her titles on Myspace at the following link: http://www.myspace.com/cherylpowdermusic

On Wed September 3rd Cheryl did a live telephone interview with Shaneen Robinson on NCI radio in Winnipeg. A playback of the interview is available at the bottom of the Myspace music selections.
