I vote for Jacob Lusk and I think that win or lose, he is the next great R&B star! Naturally I would pick him. R&B runs warm in my veins.......... On the other hand, I think Pia is awesome also and at this point I wouldn't be mad at any of them winning.

Casey and Pia will be the last two standing. (imo) As long as we're on this topic, I must say that last night was the most entertaining American Idol show I have ever seen.

Technically, Pia is perfect, but Casey has the quirky factor which is always popular. Pia has to start making different song choices if she wants to win. I don't recall the names of some of the other people but a couple of the women are really gaining momentum with last night's performances.

Idol, dont watch it ,well not much, not this years anyways at all, seen some of the past shows on occasion, dont do nothing for me at all. my personal opinion is who really cares, what counts is those who make that lasting impression , and are in for the long haul, only one I know of who has really done so is Kelly Clarkson. the rest of them , who cares...the real idols are the ones who have toughed it out and stuck with it with out all the hype of that show....
if you dont like what I have to say, then bring it!

God Love You Bryon. I was floored to see all the artist here supporting glorified Karaoke . Folks, if this distraction wasn't on, more people would be looking and finding great true artists like a Richard Scottie or a Bryon Tosoff or a Stoneman.

Finally something interesting was said on The Pipeline. Leave it to The Godfather to steer us right!
My respect "Don" Tosoff.

For us that still play live music, Karaoke is our enemy. It takes food out of the mouths of the people we love.

I talk about it here.

Instead of new songs we get rehashed versions of oldie's.

I want to hear Chandra Moon's new song " Through the Finger's of Your Hand" again. Now there is a talented soul really expressing herself. Tv really rots the brain. All of it.

Now back to my censored silence....

Good interview, Bob. Great exposure. You were very comfortable in front of the camera and expressed your views well.

I never watched this show in the earlier years, but starting last year and more so this year, I have really got into it.

The early part of the auditions are a cappella, which really makes it tough, but very revealing. It is a vocal competition, after all.

Later, there is full live accompaniment, I think. At least in the final stages.

Also this year I think the judges are an interesting combination, each bringing something to the mix. Randy is filling somewhat the role of Simon, but he is not unnecessarily mean, just honest.

The detractors, here anyway, are in my mind just too lazy to watch this show. After all we are supposed to be artists right? You should be able to appreciate the value of it even if it's not your thing.

Why post on a topic if your post isn't addressing the topic but rather just saying, you're stupid for liking this show. Unless maybe you just post for the attention. Hm I think I answered my question!

Oh and I forgot. I also like Pia, and voted for her.

Don't usually watch Idol. I'm too busy trying to make it like Bob. Good job and interview by the way Bob!!
No, I have a 9-5 and write on my off time. I don't watch much Boob-tube.
Gonna take the wife and a few friends over to the local "open Mic" tonight and get my ya-ya's out and WOW the locals. Hook up with a few jammers and wing a few tunes and just have some musical interaction!
That kinda stuff is sooooooo much fun!!
Idol can kiss my ASS!............

Emily did you just say we are too lazy to watch TV? Did I just read that?

Thanks Richard, I am out here fighting for all of us.

You got it Duane , Any time spent in front the the T.V is wasted. Plain and simple. But to each his own, if you feel it makes you a better artist then by all means.

How about, just as a thought, let your guilty pleasures be reading, writing, how about practicing your art?

No, I am crazy to think that, i guess I am just too lazy to watch TV.

That is classic. : )

hahahaha you guys are funny. But it's cool. I mean, you certainly have a right to your opinion. Just as I have a right to disagree with it. Firstly, if you don't watch, how do you know how good any of the artists are? These are young up and coming artists who are doing what many of us have already done. Paying their dues. They have competed against thousands of other artists who wanted a spot. They are competing for a shot at something bigger than just paying the bills. I did that (paid bills) for so many years and most of them I had to have a day job just to keep afloat. Band after band after band. Genre after genre after genre. The only thing that kept me going was the love of the art. I see that in the eyes of these young people. I see the fire in their hearts for music. I have watched each of them develop, grow and become better and better each time. The draw for me is the drama. You have to be good enough to impress America enough to vote for you. Man, that's a lot more pressure than singing Karaoke.

Now, I read the word Karaoke here several times and I must say that in my opinion (for whatever its worth) most of these vocalists are much better than any Karaoke singers I have ever seen. Some of them are better than some of the best singers I have heard. And, man I have heard some singers in my time. Plus, so many great producers are involved so you get a glimpse into how the greats make great music in the studio. Why miss out on that opportunity? In addition to this, there is a variety in styles of singers to see, Jazzy raspy, Reggae, Country, Soul/Gospel, A hard rock'n wailer, A phenomenal balladeer and all as good or better than some of the best I have heard. They are all singing live with a band and back ground singers in front of an audience of millions all over the world. Does that really sound like a Karaoke event to you? I just don't see what is wrong with wanting to see that. Nor do I think it makes anyone a lesser musician just because they enjoy watching it.

One other thing, as a vocal coach and songwriting teacher to teens, I can tell you how great and rewarding it is to see young people grow and become musical artists. Being a part of that growth is even better. Idol is a packaged, glossed up deal for sure. But the talent there is real. What they do after the show is all on them. But right now its their chance to reach higher than they have ever reached, dig deeper than they have ever dug and go farther than many musicians will ever have a chance to go. Man, that's what music is all about. Artists striving to reach whatever level they desire to reach. whether its at the corner bar or the Idol stage. It's still you in front of people who want to see you. Without the people, the art is just a self driven tour in the mirror. I always loved the magic of live talent drama. It's where I had my greatest moments on stage and where I learned to appreciate the gifts that others have to offer.

Respect,
Stoneman

Well said Stoneman and Bryon,

And like Bryon, I like to go out and watch live music. Some person singing their heart out, the tune they wrote, believing in it with all their heart. Thats art, thats life.

And like I said earlier to each his own. If that is the road you decide to take, Go with God.

But I lived in Nashville and spent much time in New York City and I saw buskers that would blow anyone on AI off the stage. I've watched open mike nights in Atlanta, and Toronto and Vancouver and various other cities where there was such true excitement the hat or the jar was brimming full of paper money. People were that moved.

I guess for the songwriters out there. The ones that play an instrument and craft their work. Really dedicate themselves to their art. My message is good for you.

And with respect to Stoneman. Karaoke is not a false analogy. It is apt... APT!

: )

Best wishes...

Well...got some responses to my question which I appreciate...also some which didn't relate my question really...other than to say they don't watch the show and if you do, you're a slacker and probably not a real artist. Also this one dude reposted a tome from someone else's blog, where a link would have been enough.

This is my blog so maybe I'll delete the irrelevant comments, and/or the ones which scare off others from sharing their opinions.

Still, this topic may have been effectively killed.

I'll be around today updating my station. There seems to be no shortage of good new songs coming in.

Back on this. I had no quarrel with the two sent home last night. I am guessing Thia will be back next year and go far. Or go far regardless. She just wasn't quite ready.

I think Paul has something that will carve him out a career, not just a niche. Casey is inconsistent.

Stay tuned!

if you ask a question get ready for all kinds Vack, , not real artists, who are you kidding. i never seen you post here before, and you show up with one post out of the wilderness and then get sarcastic, you dont know this community obviously, interact but dont do a one liner question, get in there and get dirty, anyways. have some substance to your posts, i responded with my opinion, so did others, I found bob lefsetz info a good one. but I agree a link would have been fine, with a small portion of what he wrote, so i stand corrected there. but if you are going to defend those who dont show up , how is that scaring them off. If people dont come then there they go.

you are funny Vack, but thanks for the start of a good thread, look at the responses you got, you did well and got interaction happening , stick around, but dont get offended, its just the internet , remember

Well I wasn't criticising the show just saying I couldn't give you an opinion as A) I live in the UK and B) I can't stand TV and don't have one.

That doesn't mean I don't think they've got talent I just haven't seen them personally. They must be good to get through all the heats.

Just didn't want you to think no-one reads the posts - just couldn't say much about it. I personally love to see live artists in the flesh and enjoy playing music live at home rather than watching others on TV - it's not a criticism just a matter of choice. No doubt some of the competitors must be able to sing to get through.

You make an interesting point when you say Casey is inconsistent but then so are some of the other men. I think one of the women will win.

I found there's no way to edit someone else's comment on my blog; I would just have to delete an entire post.

"Idol, dont watch it ,well not much, not this years anyways at all, seen some of the past shows on occasion, dont do nothing for me at all. my personal opinion is who really cares, what counts is those who make that lasting impression , and are in for the long haul, only one I know of who has really done so is Kelly Clarkson. the rest of them , who cares...the real idols are the ones who have toughed it out and stuck with it with out all the hype of that show....

"

Not that bad really, until you get to the last line "if you don't like...bring it!". That's carefully crafted to sound jocular but the underlying message there is literal and it does throw a chill over everything.

This was followed by a tag-team, backslapping commentary by Bob Rylett - excerpt: "God Love You Bryon. I was floored to see all the artist here supporting glorified Karaoke ."

Floored? So instead of engaging, and respecting the previous posters opinions, not to mention the blog owners', this dude trashes them all except for Godfather Bryon.

Not only that, he has the lack of manners to post a video interview of himself in my blog...res ipsa loquitur...

Then there's the referenced document dump, a repost from another blog. Bryon later agrees it was unnecessary. So Bryon, how about editing it?

"if you ask a question get ready for all kinds Vack, , not real artists, who are you kidding. i never seen you post here before, and you show up with one post out of the wilderness and then get sarcastic, you dont know this community obviously, interact but dont do a one liner question, get in there and get dirty, anyways. have some substance to your posts...
"

So you've never seen me post here? Maybe not in the volume you do. Nobody could match that. But I've been around for some time. And if this is my first originated topic, does that automatically make my opinions, or choice of a topic, lightweight? Don't know the community? Sir, you presume way too much.

And, "Have some substance to your posts"...Bryon, this is my blog. You are a guest here.

Hey Vack, good points man, i got ya, and will adjust that post you mentioned. and just keep the link as you had suggested before,I respect your request and will do so, although you can delete it yourself in your account artist listener page, but i will get rid of most of it since it really was quite long winded..and you are right, it was some one else s thoughts, so I will acquiesce, I am a reasonable person

cheers Vack .

Every now and then my wife will ask me what I want for breakfast. Bacon or Sausage, waffles or eggs. Now I know this sounds gross to all vegans but to me this is sustenance with a capital word called "Delicious" written all over it. My answer is always "Why do I have to choose one or the other?" Just give me all of it. I am lucky in that she loves me and gives me what I want. All of it! I was never one who took kindly to limitations in the things I like. Years ago a well known record label wanted to give me a development deal but insisted that I stop doing Reggae, Rock and jazz because they wanted me to be an R&B artist. Limitations! I said no. I would rather be unknown than be forced to do just one thing in music. They are now defunct I am still here developing into whatever people think I am. heheheheheh good luck with that one..........

My point? I'm getting there. I absolutely love live entertainment. I go to live shows once or twice a week. Mainly to see my students perform but also to see some of the many musicians I have known over the years play. Quite often I am drafted from the audience to play with a band I use to play with in a song or two. There is nothing like live music! I get that because I have done that for longer than some people on this website have been alive. But I refuse to be limited with what i can or cannot do. I really enjoy sitting down watching live entertainment on TV. No, it's not the same but it certainly is not some evil transgression against live music venues. It is simply another thing I enjoy doing.

I rebel against many limitations. I love to play Rock guitar, R&B keys, Jazz horns, Reggae/African drums, Soul vocals, Metal, Acapela, show tunes and even an occasional Country song. It's all music to me. I never understood artists who locked themselves into one thing and then accused other artists who do many of being sell outs and impure or some elitist crap like that. Just like music, I love to read the news paper/books, listen to the radio, surf the worldwide net and look at TV. It's all media to me. No limitations. Just give me information and give it to me from all corners of the earth. I am alive and free! When you get my age you begin to really appreciate that. Now that I am retired from everything but music, I have the time to explore and be blessed with all sorts of stimuli from many sources. This my world and I am going to get everything I can get from it before I leave for the next world or existence. The only limitation is the amount of time I have to live in it.

I would like to encourage others to try to avoid limiting themselves just because someone else claims it's the boob tube, the immoral cyber net, the out dated radio waves or the ancient medium known as the newspaper. When you limit yourself you miss out on so many great things. The key is to get a healthy balance of information and entertainment from a variety of sources. It all has its merits and its failures. I have seen some live shows that were just absolutely terrible and I have seen some that were so good that it seemed like time stood still for that moment. I have also seen some live performances on TV that brought tears to my eyes because they were so good and some that made me laugh because they were so bad. The demon is not your TV, Computer, Radio or the local club with live music and a,a,a,a, alcohol. The demon is whatever you perceive as being evil to you. Its all mentally virtual. But, if you approach everything with an open mind you will find so many golden nuggets you never dreamed were there. I believe in having absolutely no limitations in art. TV, Computer, Live, Radio, Karaoke, whatever! I want Bacon, Sausage, Waffles and eggs please. Just give it to me in small enough portions so that I can devour it all. Variety is the spice of life!

But Thats Just Me, Right?

Respect & Love, Stoneman
