Holy crap, thanks to whoever is voting for us.
Seriously, 5th, 6th, and 10th in Alt/pop, metal, and songwriting respectively, and my mom can't even figure out how to vote. So a big thank you to whoever out there is voting, and to IAC for inflating my already dangerous ego by creating this wonderful event.
Sincerely,
Drewsus

I'm getting my ass handed to me in a sling.
But then I haven't voted and I haven't asked anyone to.
Still, I'm getting stomped...

I'm just surprised that I've gotten any votes.
So, thanks to whoever you are.
And... go, Otis, go!
PS - Bob, you know that you have my vote(s).

I know what you mean Bob.
I'm HOPING most of the weight for judging the songs comes from a panel of listeners.
I don't want to feel obliged to have to vote for myself 10 times per day in order just to stay even with all those that are doing the same.
It would be unfortunate if the winner won because he was diligient enough to vote for himself 10 times per day every day.
That's ludicrous.

The judges get a 50% weight, reportedly.
Noting those who vote for themselves 20 times a day and giving them a zero would drop them out of the 2nd round. I expect the second round will show a more reasonable result :)

Hey Bob, I voted for you! And Todd actually. Just so you guys know, we voted for each of our songs twice, I hope too many people aren't trying to game it, it wouldn't do us any good to do that, we want to know where we are as musicians and how are material is truly being received. Few things would be worse for the maturity and progression of a band than pretending you are awesome by constantly repeating to yourself that you are.

I disagree, Drewsus - you or your band should have a certain confidence in yourself.
.. and you got to know when to minus the b.s. of what people say.. and discern for yourself. Games are boring as all hell.

Anyone who votes 10 times a day for his or her own song may win the contest but will still be a loser. I hope that acts of desperation like that can be thwarted by IAC admin. I'm assuming they have the technical ability to see who is voting for whom and how many times a day from the same IP address. Cheating just takes the fun out of the whole thing and makes the contest pointless.

Hmmm, 10 votes a day for your own song is not enough to keep you on top. Think bigger.

Wow we are truly grateful to even be in this thing (competition)
Our Broadband ran out on the first day---so we are voting on dial up which means
each vote takes up to 20 mins------like being in a straightjacket!
We are voting for Artists we love and ourselves and are battling for top 3, with Jeff Allen Myers, and Marc Cercotti in World, and Karl Sloan and Lyin' Dan in Classical and Easy Listening plus Jake is up there ( top 5) in Classic and Retro---
Thanks so much to those who play our tunes----we love ewe!!!

I wouldn't say voting for yourself is cheating because we are allowed to do it. I personally think it would have been wise (or at least more realistic) to make voting for yourself impossible. But, sounds like a lot of us are doing it so maybe I'll go fire out a couple votes for myself, haha. Long live Jesse Adams!
LD you make me laugh.

I will freely admit to voting for myself. Anyone who who believes in themselves so little that they wouldn't vote for themselves is a loser. It's not cheating if it's within the rules. Now I haven't used all ten votes in the blues/jazz catagory on myself, there are a number of others worthy, I've voted for Earl Green for instance (you should check him out a great stallwart of the brittish blues scene) and some others I listened to at random and liked.
I also voted in the alternative catagorty. I've cast most votes for Sally Strawberry but also a number for others (again random listens that I liked).

"each vote takes up to 20 mins------like being in a straightjacket!"
I've sent a report to IAC tec help about the issues with large numbers of images making it hard to access stations on limited internet conections, They said they were looking into it.
In the mean time if you are using Firefox you can disable image loading in the preferences (bottom of edit menu under linux, nor sure where in windows) and this will speed on the page considerably.

Jesse and Andy - I never said that voting for one's self is cheating. It's expected that everyone will vote for themselves including me. I was only talking about people who game the system and do things that are really inappropriate. IAC mentioned they didn't want people to do that and I agree. We're sort of on the honor system here and I'm just expressing my view of what that means to me.

@Richard
Perhaps the first lines of my post could read a little stronger than I intended. Don't meen to argue on that level. Voting ten times for your self would be unimaginative. It shouldn't be penalised though as it's not against the published rules. It wouldn't be enough as LyinDan points out. Creating mutliple accounts for votecasting purposes though, that would be cheating and I suspect can be easily spotted by the admins.
I don't really like music as a competetition, to easy to get drawn into the competetiion and overide the music. This comp is obviously good for exposure though, as the play counts are through the roof.

I'd also like to say no one need worry about my confidence in my band, I just think you learn more about yourselves if you find out how your music does on its own.

I agree with Oat P! Music should stand or fall on merit alone!
I have only voted ONCE this week, so no 'Ballot Box Stuffing'
from us! If we make the 'cut' for next week that will be good
enough for me!

Larree - at the top of each category station, click on "sort by #votes" on the top right.
If you close the page it goes back to random listing. So every time you go to a new page and you want to see the rankings just click on that button again.
Andy - I've voting for a lot different people including you and many others I never heard of before.. All I am saying is that apart from innocent self-voting which I'm sure is what most of us are doing, there may be some of what you mentioned and what I referred to as "inapproprate" and that's complex technical cheating like creating fake accounts and the like. Even though the rules don't even state that it's not allowed, it's still ethically wrong imo. But I'm not making a big deal out of this. It's not my job to police the sitaution. For the most part the contest is fun and may the best songs win. When you say that actual "system gamers"shouldn't be penalized...well, they shouldn't go to jail (LOL) but they shouldn't win prizes either, but I'm sure that IAC is smart enough not to let that happen. They obviously know what they are doing and I trust they will do the right thing. It doesn't matter who wins because the contest jas energized the site and it's alrtready been a smashing success. In a sense, we all win.
My unique plays are through the roof as well as new station adds. Regardless of what happens in the contest, I'm a happy camper. I would just like everyone to have a level playing field.

50% of the score is the panel of judges, they can handle it. :) The bottom 50% drop out after the first round.
On that subject, a number of people seem to have gotten wise lately. Until now, 20 votes could get you on top in some cases. It would seem there are a number of peeps getting enough votes now that that is not the case. Draw your own conclusions.
