I miss the old days when station adds meant something
I have some happy memories of IAC way back when people added your song to their station and wrote a mini review. You really got a buzz from the fact that they went to so much effort. It was better for the Station hopper then too because they could read all about the song before deciding whether to listen or not.

Some Station owners were really good too (we still have a few left don't get me wrong) and some were funny - remember Ma Blunt and Choosy Susie? Remember Brian Booth and Jawz, Stevie Ison was good value too. It got so that you'd be happy to be reviewed even if they made you look stupid by teasing you, it was all done in good spirits and people understood that.

The Station themes were better then, more specialised and well put together. Maybe newcomers don't realise how much more they can contribute instead of filling a page with pot luck songs from their friends and pushy folk they don't want to offend.

So if you're doing it, like Sandman and Bryon for example then good on yer but if you ain't then get off your lazy ass and give us at least a one liner like "This is a good song, it don't suck"

and by the way, whatever happened to Hugh Hamilton, I used to like him, there ain't no-one like that around these days.

Things aren't the way they used to be. Stations aren't the way they used to be.

Yeah, well said old man but if you feel like that then get off you fat old backside and start a Station if you can find any music to suit your ancient old ears - or any loud enough for you to hear it

I remember when Choosy Susie was around. She was a lot more spry than Picky Vickie.

"Build it up............. Then smack 'em round the head with it!"

Good effort, may you start a new surge of entertaining comments TNT, after all IAC put that facility there for everyone's benefit so why not take advantage of it. Maybe drop your own song a few places down the list however, whoooops.

Picky Vicky:

Here's one with nifty little comments about the artists and their work:

Phlegm Phavourite Country and Blues Station

It's just Blues/Jazz and COUNTRY stuff I've bumped into around IAC.... seems to be SO MUCH more here, I haven't experienced though.

BUT, none of the songs are clunkers. They've all got somethin' worth sharing, I promise.

Thanks Vickie...:)
I've never understood why station owners don't write a something about songs they add to stations if they love 'em.
.Its not exactly a huge effort to write a line or 2- and like you say-it means alot to the artists to recieve them..Well it does to me anyway....Its not like any of us are making money off what we do-so appreciation is the main (only) reward from others..
The station facility here is second to none and makes it fun creating stations and writing reviews anyway...
Miss Anjuli and Hugh here too

Steve

I think the review of a song is more important to solo artists---or those who come from sites where reviews are the shit!

because most of our tunes are recorded "in committee" once they are done they are done----and we move on
we may do some tweaking or add tracks---but if someones suggests a change here or there, it just ain't possible as, we have all dispersed back to our real lives---

My postition on songs is---If I love it I add ----I can't always explain why I love it though???

Rob..I didn't mean station owners doing long reviews or anything..Just instant first impressions.."Great vocal-love the way the chorus moves"...Reminds me of The Universal by Blur-same sort of vibe"...Just that sort of thing..Its always great to receive any comments long or short

Yah Steve, you are correct with that observation, there are Some songs that hit you immediately and others grow on you....also most of my reviews are generally done on the fly as I listen to the song a few times and I dont think about what I am going to say, it just flows..,but I see Robs point as well where you hear a song and it just resonates with you and you go, nice, i like it, it goes on my station(s) but it is always nice to see a comment like. " this is a nice piece of work, well thought out, fine bridge and decent vocals too.."
Like Vickie says doesnt take much effort and gives some kind of appreciation for what the artist has done...and sometimes a suggestion to improve or that idea could be done too, although I have seen some sensitive artists get offended too, but most say hey thanks for taking the time to listen and appreciate the feedback.

Yes Comments are great, and we all appreciate when someone listens and takes some time to express a bit about the song. Even one liners... :)

An example, Jilly is great at it. I am sorry I did not make copies of some reviews she did on my songs as she deleted them soon after...and I thought they were very special! She has a talent for sure.Bryon is prolific at it, and he is incredibly active giving support to many artists.Plegmn does a great job as well..... I know I am forgetting a few others so forgive me :)

I also appreciate those that add a song and say nothing. The simple act of selecting it for a station speaks volumes on its own. Some people just like music and they do not feel the need to express themselves further.

Thanks to all who administer stations, it really is what makes IAC special.
