New Song/Old Music
The great thing about writing and producing your own songs is that it belongs to you and you can do whatever you want to do with it. A while back I produced a song called “Pull Your Pants Up”. I was going to put it on my next CD “Therapy, This Time It’s Personal”. However, recently I was reviewing all the songs on the CD and I realized that the song did not fit well with the concept of the CD. So, I decided to keep it “as is’ and use it on my next project but to write a new song using the same music tracks with vocals that are more closely related to the CD concept. Thus, this week “I Ain’t Going Home” was born. I like both versions of the song equally. I like this one because it delves a bit deeper into the memories of my childhood. I was abandoned and abused child. I spent most of my childhood as a run away who lived on the streets. My daily struggle was to find food and survive on the mean streets of South Central Los Angeles.
This song portrays the rubber band effects of violence verses shelter. If I stayed home I faced daily bloody beatings. If I ran away I faced hunger, the elements and violence in the streets. Although sometimes I gave in and went home to the house of pain, more often than not I would say “I Ain’t Going Home”. Pain or food, food or pain. This song has a lot of the old school Parliament Funkadelic elements including the slurred background vocals. It is sort of a dance groove that is laced with some vividly stark messages of pain. I love the old blending of darkness and light that may have your head bobbing until you realize just exactly what I am singing about. I call it trickle down message music.
So in keeping with my recent assertion that I may start posting my music for your perusal, here is "I Ain't Going Home":
