The Rhema Band (1987)
This is a Reggae/Gospel theme song that I wrote for "The Rhema Band" which was a band that I co-fronted with Latin/Gospel music legend Steve Gaeta in 1987. Rhema in Greek means "The Spoken Word Of God" The Rhema band was a Latin/R&B/Rock/Blues/Gospel band. We were very popular in California from 1986 to 1995. We toured all over California as a Gospel band and headlined in Jubilee, Praise Chapel, Victory Outreach and many more Mega-Churches and their smaller sister churches. We also toured 32 prisons, Juvenile halls and California Youth Authority facililties every year including San Quentin, Soledad, Vacaville, DVI, O.H. Close, San Francisco Juvenile Hall, Los Angeles County Jail etc. We even made several television appearances and sold thousands of cassettes/Albums at our concerts. Our primary mission was to bring change to the lives of those who had made criminal mistakes. Through the love of God and music we focused on redemption rather than condemnation. As one of the lead singers and a California Prison Chaplain, I was honored to have toured with these fine musicians who have all gone on to do many great things in life, music and ministry. This recording gives you an early glimpse into my development as a songwriter and musician. I retired from The California Prison Chaplaincy in 1996. Although it was a so-called dangerous job, I loved every single minute of it.
No regrets and no disclaimers on this one. Although I am no longer connected to organize religion, I still believe in God and and sharing his love with those who are willing to listen. But I also respect those of other religions and non-believers. Yet, I will be a Jesus freak untill the day I die. I am not ashamed of that at all.
