Dirty Diaper Flies
"Dirty Diaper Flies" is a metaphor for people who cheat on their spouses. I used a visualization exercise seeking to find the most graphic imagery for a cheater and what came out of my brain was the sight of a fly crawling out of a dirty diaper that has been discarded on the beach. I then produced this Rock song around that image. The result is a song that my wife referred to as "Creepy" due to the lyrical imagery. However, some of my other test listeners loved it so it barely made the cut in regards to whether I would allow the rest of the world to hear it. I noticed that people who have been cheated on seem to like this song the most. Go Figure!

Bizarre concept but you make it work! Great vocals and drum tracks. For someone who specializes in RnB/Soul, you always do so well when you step out of that genre with your rock moves. I'd love to hear more of your rock side! But in general you are a jack of all trades who could master any genre at will.

Thanks so much Richard for listening to this song and giving such a positive response. Yeah, Rock is obviously not my main genre but I do love venturing out into deeper creative waters. This will probably be an album filler when I release my first Rock/Pop CD later this year. I am also studying Country music and recently purchase a slide guitar. Maybe next year I will be proficient enough to start tracking country songs. Maybe not. :) We'll see what happens. I love to challenge myself and country will be the ultimate challenge for an R&B songwriter. Lionel Ritchie seems to be able to go that rout effortlessly. But I am no Lionel Ritchie. Anyway, thanks again my musical brother. When it seems like no else is paying any attention I can always rely on you to come through with a listen and a response. I hope you know how much I truly appreciate that.
Much Respect,

Love the rock feel you've come up with here and it just shows that no subject can't have a song written about it!! Great metaphor and reflects the disgust one feels when you find out someone has cheated on you - so many of us have suffered that skin crawling revulsion at the thought someone you're with has been with someone else while you're still with them. Thank goodness I'm with a good man now but in the past I've been through this myself.

Thanks so much Chandra. Yes, being cheated on is such a terrible thing to have happen. I am ashamed to admit that in my youth I crawled out of a few diapers and flew away. But I learned very quickly just how wrong that was when it happened to me. Been faithful for 35+ plus years now. Thanks again for your kind words about the song! You Rock!

You gotta know I have nothing but respect for you, man, but I just didn't want to hear about diaper flies! I don't want to think about dirty diaper flies. But you did pick a perfect metaphor for those kinds of people! I tried to tune out the words and just hear the groove, and that was totally solid, but every time them flies come around I'm put off. The sound is awesome! It's just not for me.
Much respect,
Tom

Haaaaaa! :) I'd say I accomplished my mission if it affected you that way Tom. This song was not really meant to entertain. It was meant to make people uneasy by bringing forth a visual that is repulsive and vile. This is how I see cheaters and even though this song has its creepy image, the overall result is positive if it prompts people to reexamine the actions involved in the practice of breaking hearts and destroying families. No, none of us really want to hear about dirty diaper flies just as none of us want to be cheated on. Thanks for listening Bro.!
Respect Back Atcha!

Hahahahaha, maybe I should take it down seeing as it disgusts so many of my favorite writers. But thanks for listening Steve. There is darkness in all of us that should probably be kept inside of us where others think it belongs. But I am not afraid to let my dark side be heard. It is a part of me also and I think it is beautiful to write about and portray the not so pleasant side of life. This is what the image of a cheater looks like to me. Nasty, disgusting and full of stank. There are many who have heard this song that immediately identified with what it felt like to be cheated on by the one they loved. Others just flat out didn't get it. They couldn't get past the image long enough to receive the message. I am so proud of that. It means that my descriptive side is right on point. The fact that they missed the message is a shame but not every message is for everyone. I write what I feel and feel what I write. That is what I felt when I wrote it and that makes it absolutely perfect for me. Any writer that thinks people are going like or love everything they write is a fool waiting to happen. I am no fool. My walls are lined with awards for all kinds of touchy feel good songs. This one will never win an award but it has definitely shaken a few people up. I am just a writer that knows that disgust is just as much a part of life as love, faith, joy and happiness. It is not my job to make people happy. It is my job to write what I see and feel. It is my hope that at least one cheater will hear this and realize what they truly look and smell like. Maybe that will cause them to change and to keep love real and honest. If that should happen to one person, this will have been one of my best songs. I am intrigued by the fact that this song resonates well with women who have been cheated on and is hated by a lot of men. Go figure........
Much Respect!
