Humdinger of a weekend!
Drove about 1200 miles from Seattle to the San Francisco Bay area for my niece's wedding. Car gave out after about 2 1/2 hours of this normally 15 hour trip. A mechanic thought it was just spark plug trouble, but after replacing plugs and cables he decided it was the catalytic converter (cha-ching!). Rented a car and drove the rest of the way. Left at 8am and arrived at 6am the next day, only to find out that the groom backed out and the wedding was off! Darn, I was supposed to sing, but I suppose that's beside the point. Drove back Sunday night to arrive Monday morning at 9 so I could pick up my car and the mechanic said he hadn't got the part yet! So he had to "run" to the next town to get it. He literally must have run, or even walked, because it took him 3 hours! I got home at about 7pm after not sleeping for 36 hours.
The GOOD thing is, I wrote a nice song while my car was being worked on, and a KILLER song while I was driving back. Nothing like miles and miles of black highway to get you mind free. Hopefully, I'll be recording them soon and sharing them with you.
It's good to be home.

i've my share of car stories, especially back east, where the winter's are almost guaranteed to give all citizens driving cars, a story a year at the minimum, about dangerous conditions, or sliding ice.
anyhow, my brother experienced a similar ordeal a few years ago. he works on movies and they were all shooting on location in portland, oregon, if I recall. he was heading home to la for the holidays, and his car broke down on the way. Yikes, by this little town, took em a few days to get the part. he rented a car for the drive back, like you.
you made it back, with a couple songs anyway...
cheers...
