Perhaps some merit here in this statement Tom and Larree,Stevie is brilliant although I avoid comparing and trying to match my abilities to others, I do appreciate what many top drawer musicians do and we all have our qualities and gifts, although am driven by others who have inspired me here, such as Steve Ison and others since arriving here at IMP. My Goal is mainly to improve my production values of what I do bring here, sometimes successful other times fall short. It has always been a huge learning curve for me tackling challenging things, in anything, I struggle at times, learning has been difficult over my lifetime.
Music wise
I started out in the classical genre as a child till late teens, learning all the technical components of piano performance, doing all kinds of music from the various eras of music from early music to Romantic and into works like Debussy , Mendelssohn
Difficult Beethoven works, Pathetique Sonata. numerous songs that linger in my mind.
Eventually I morphed into the Rock, Blues Country, played a lot in bands over the years, the single greatest learning experience for a musician to have. Eventually did solo performing background music for weddings ,funerals ! cafes restaurants Xmas Parties etc. gained a lot of experience doing that
Saying all that above, well I compare myself to my own accomplishments, past present etc and how I have developed over time and bear that in mind, some people have been given special talents. as for me, as a musician, I have worked my ass off to try to become better as I knew nothing ever came easy.I was very average maybe even below average.
For example I spent one year learning how to do working on my jazz and blues music, figuring out how to do walking bass lines comping and improvising after being inspired by a musician who I heard do all that, and said to myself, Fk man, I want to do that, so I worked hours a day, trying to figure it out, one day a year later after thousands of hours learning that particular style , it came to me, (see, I am slow, even with books, I just listened to jazzers, who did that kind of thing, and eventually boom , it was like an epiphany , after that I started to teach this type of thing, another part of my teaching arsenal to offer to others.
Anyways, yeah Stevie Wonder is a Icon, me, well I am a Peon lol
