Finishing a Song is like Solving a Crossword Puzzle
I've realized that I get the same kind of satisfaction from each. Writing a song is kind of like doing a puzzle - you have some information, such as possible rhymes, but you might not know the line to get to the rhyme. You're always solving little bits of it, knowing that there is some kind ultimate satisfaction if you just keep at it. Any of you relate?

Yeah, I do a lot of those "crossword puzzles". I enjoy the challenge trying to make things fit just right. Not so much lyrics, but chords, tempos, key changes, etc.
I've been working on an upbeat jazz/fusion tune for a few months now trying to get the production just right. Which instrument, duration, placement, drum beat changes to fit that section, chord changes.
The more you play and the more you experiment, the more challenges pop up. But then, topping your last efforts is the goal right?
Cheers,
Duane

Very True. I tend to resolve my song issues in my head long before I get started recording. I find myself walking around reciting possible word combos and humming the verse tune at the same time. Usually, by the time i sit down to write I have already formed an inner consensus on what the lyrics and music are going to be. The "feel" thing I do which instruments I am going to play where. I tend to produce drums and Bass first and then start layering instruments and vocals. So, yeah, its like a puzzle but in my head though.
