If John Lennon Was the End of the Beginning ...
We must be somewhere in the middle! Do you ever wonder what music will sound like in 100 years? Can we even imagine it? Will it continue to devolve into mindless noise, or willl there be another Renaissance where people rediscover the magic of playing actual instruments? Music has never stopped evolving and mutating. And of course, music is subjective - it can sound different to different people, and beauty is in the ear of the beholder, so what sounds beautiful in 100 years may be different than what sound beautiful today.
So, how do you think it will go? What will be the next phase in music's evolution?

Another question is - will the human race exist 100 years from now? If it does, will we have a utopia or a dystopia? Will people care about music or finding water? Will we be living on another planet? In any case, big changes are coming quicker than 100 years, some for the better and some for the worse. AI will influence every area of endeavor and it’s hard to imagine the results. But let’s concentrate on music since that’s the thrust of your question. It seems like we’ve mined most of the gold from the golden age of music. Whatever comes next can’t be just more of the same. Another Sinatra? Another Beatles? Another Dylan? Highly unlikely! But that doesn’t mean that another golden age of music isn’t possible but it will probably be in a form that is totally unrecognizable from what came before And how golden it appears will be very subjective.

Music is basically a ritual. It is used to conjure and convey emotional recognitions for bringing back to life feelings of a particular spirit, one that is either worshiped or abhorred. Whenever someone gets captured or enraptured within it the presence of it lives again, bringing back to life that which once was. Music is similar unto a name, which when it is not only pronounced, but received and thus believed and accepted it can live again. Knowing that someone will feel exactly the same way you do after you are dead and gone, technically, means that you will be “alive” yet again. So, music is passing along your feelings, your spirit. Music is “a musing” too. "Musing" is to think or say something in a thoughtful way. "Amusing" as this may sound, I “am using” my lyrics as the "message" and the music as a "massage” to conjure up my spirit yet again. Haha! -M-

Well music evolves in various indie corners but popular music seems pretty rigidly mediocre, hard to hold out much hope for that.

It already has. And it's not hard to imagine the results, anyone can go experiment with it and see what it's capable of now.
