Well, in my own experience I can deny it. My stepfather is the keyboard player for The Who, and has been since 1978, my biological father was in Manfred Mann in the 60's and after he left the band, worked for people such as George Martin and Peter Asher, to name just two. So, nepotism is all very well, but I went to school with some really famous people's kids and we're all skint. I wish I could say that if you have connections you would never run out of studio time or talented musicians for hire, but this just doesn't seem to be true. Maybe that's true if you have money, though I wouldn't know! Maybe it works for some, but to be honest, I'd have to question that.

Aimee, wha's up? Did my entry in this blog get deleted?
It's all good, but it was in no way inflammatory, so not clear why you would've done such a thing.
Anyhoo, I'll be adding a post, when I get a chance to verify the BEST tune for the excellent idea you have for a Radio station on IAC. -pHLeGm

Hey Aimee,
Um, well, ur.... music licensing doesn't really work in the way you're trying to do it. I admire your gumption, and your resolve to push ahead, but the truth be known, ALL music is available for sync licensing and always has been. Sites such as Taxi, songcatalogue, musicdealers etc, work very hard to attract clients, primarily by the specified listings they generate. Those listings come from the musical director or creative team, and are tailored to the specific requirement.
Example ; Currently at musicdealers.com
Music Call: Client is looking to license music for a Documentary Film. They are looking for songs with a Bollywood feel.
Genre: World / International
Vocals: Male / Female
Client: Confidential
Payment: $2500-$5000
Use: Film
Due Date: October 4th, 2009 2PM CST (14:00)
Other: "The more bizarre the better!"
In this way the client gets targeted submissions. If it was a Taxi listing, they also pre-screen them, and sift out those which are not suitable.
I think what you're doing is positive and uplifting. I do think however, that something such as this would be better left to those who have some experience in the field. It looks kinda naive, and doesn't put a very positive professional light on IAC and independant artists in general.
sincerely, niteshift

Go to MY page, and you'll only hear the REAL, and FAMOUS artists on IAC.
It's a truly uplifting experience in Mainstream Meets Indie, and artists that people have actually heard of before; artists that are a household name.

Doing ? Doing ? ..... My Dear Ms/Mr Mouse, I send all my traffic here exclusively. Currnetly at the rate of about 500 to 800 punters a week. See here.... http://www.iacmusic.com/kawcreation Fresh new ears to hopefully enjoy all your famous household names.
They are then free to wander off wherever they like. Hopefully they'll stick around and listen to some more IAC artists.

Niteshift,
I do believe that your post is positive towards the intentions of the this station...
First off, this is JUST A STATION...just like SMASH or A LIST...it's noot meant to be anything but fun and uplifiting...if an agent or music supervisor happens to check us out at IAC, perhaps they will find what they are looking for...not all of my songs in my catalog are good for TV/Film but a few are RIGHT ON THE MONEY...so that is why I put them here...
Thus, if you get what I am saying, then we should tell SMASH and A LIST to leave picking hits to Ryan Seacrest and Rick Dees as they have MORE EXPERIENCE with knowing hits...
You know I'm being funny, right...The stations and IAC are supposed to be fun...and they are...nothing more...if we can get attention...cool...if not...let's have fun with music...
ONE MORE THING THOUGH...
I AM A MEMBER OF TAXI...and wait until you hear this!!!
I have about "100 carefully screened FORWARDS" from Taxi...by this I mean, I have submitted over 100 songs for FILM and TV...TAXI has forwarded about 100 of my records...$1000's of dollars speant...and listen to this...
Of the 100 songs forwarded...NOT ONE TIME HAVE I RECEIVED A FRICKIN' EMAIL OR PHONE CALL FROM ANY COMPANY THAT MY RECORDS WERE FORWARDED TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ODD HUH...I'm one of the most successful 'FORWARDS'. but it has 'NEVER' translated into any communication with a company or ANY REVENUE WHATSOEVER!!!
So these so called "PRofessionals"...don't do what they claim to do either...
The only thing my money and time has accomplished with TAXII, is keep their lights on and pay their salaries...wow
Forget about everything else, let's stay focused at IACmusic!!! Atleast it's FUN AND RELATIVELY FREE!!!
xoxo

Hey Aimee,
Oh that's cool, just a bit of fun. I rather like the "Elevator" idea. One of those little fables ( although I'm sure it does happen ) which seem to be a lore of the industry.
As to the film thing, there are some folks though, that may think they're onto something. Just tell it like it is. ( Like you've told it ) The odds are over 100,000 to 1 , and that's if they happen to like you. LOL
Re ; Taxi. Hmm, yes, I reserve judgment. Likewise I have a fairly good strike rate but no home runs, but gave it up as it's not being a useful return on my resources and time. I've only had one placement this year, very small, and not through Taxi either. Hey , that's life in the big city.
Keep the positive vibes coming.
cheers, niteshift

Aimee... it's LONG, but PLEASE read this regarding a forthcoming movie that Artfest Music Publishing is going to be licensing Conversation Suicide's music for.
Since we haven't gotten a licensing deal for even a SMALL underground film, yet... Well, I talked it over with School, of Product Recall, and they, and we, are most likely gonna make TOGETHER our OWN underground film, that pushes our music.
Plenty of fun, horror, comedy, serial killer mystique, and GREAT FUCKIN' Music.
It's gonna be Titled "Slaughter Haus", and will be filmed on location in Tucson, AZ and Leicester Leicestershire, England. It'll probably take a couple of years to film, and will only start out as a 30 min. SHORT film, until money and interest is generated.
It's gonna have a few tracks off the Romulus X Records UK 2009 Release: "Liquor in the front, poke her round the back"; and a few tracks off the 2010 Romulus X Records UK release: "Best of Conversation Suicide so far..."
AS well as LIVE music from BOTH bands, and LOADS of cameos from both LOCAL Scene Artists in England and Arizona, and POSSIBLY from all over the world. But the number of exciting cameos will depend on interest and monies, of course.
It's gonna be a completely D. I. Y. project for the 30 minute SHORT, until we can get Kenny Colgate behind it. And then we just may have our first licensing/film deal with Romulus X Records, pHLeGm, School, Pop, and whoever else is in our fucking bands, by that bloody time.
Watch for it.
All Hallows EVE 2010, which by the way, is the ALTERNATE Title, 10/31/2009 will be the first day of shooting, at a halloween haus party, in the ARTFEST Haus, in less than 2 weeks. And I'm pretty fuckin' excited. It's gonna be a long, crazy, haul. But it'll be MY Phantom of The Paradise, if you remember the GREAT Rock & Roll Horror/musical/comedy by Paul Williams....
I'd like to submit ONE of the TUNES that will FOR SURE be in that film, from Conversation Suicide, for your Radio Station Aimee:
Band Name: Conversation Suicide
Movie Name: "Slaughter Haus 2010" (alternate="All Hallows Eve")
Song Name: "The Sun is risin' "
URL =http://iacmusic.com/songs.aspx?SongID=42734&ArtistID=66071
Comment - This song is a moody Vampire-licious epic tune, that's done EXTREMELY well on IAC, making it to the top 25 of all genres, a number of times.. Perfect for a Dark Comedy Movie sound track, and if anybody can pull this film off, it'll be pHLeGm, and School of Product Recall.
Directed by: pHLeGm, School, Donnie, Jodi, Princezzz and others
Videographers: Big Gulp, and others
Editors: many
Continuity Editor: Princezzz
-How 'bout THAT for a fuckin' LENGTHY, but very REAL submission to the FILM/VIDEO/Game Licensing station, eh?

COMMENT -- "C'mon Angel": excellent for dark westerns, film noir, or gothic-type films.

Hey A ... I also sent you a PM on this.
Did you delete my last post regarding infrastructure vs. content business challenges?
As I said in the PM, not a big deal ... but given all the other stuff above, it could have stimulated further discussion of online revenue challenges.
Your mention of TAXI was what prompted the post, so although it didn't adhere strictly to this thread's topic, it was in reply to something mentioned in this thread ... so why it warranted removal is curious. It was not at all inflammatory, and could have been left to stimulate further discussion outside the thread.
Nonetheless ... your prerogative ... just wondering.

Richard, I think my account is still active there. They are an ok site. You have to rate other songs in different genres by other artists. That's how you get your rankings in their charts. They do like Taxi where they post different chances for licensing of music. They even promote Taxi as a service with their higher memberships...
