Out of 23,000 artists on the HITLAB.com website, 5 were selected - including an IACmusic artist named Aimee Terrin, to showcase for the major labels and Akon himself...!
Just wanted to thank IACmusic for all of the support over the last few months. The industry does in fact pay attention to 'little sites with heart' like ours here @ IACmusic.
Similar to uplaya.com as Slimdog mentioned, Akon's HITLAB.com uses similar technology to determine the hits...if you are in the Toronto area, come check out the show @ The Courthouse October 31st!
Jonny Radio : Hip Hop artist, Ranked #1 in HITLAB's ranking.
Play the Angel : Rock band, Top DHS score 99%.
Ak The Artist : R&B artist, 3rd Top DHS score 97%.
Tara Keith : Country artist, Top country DHS score 89%.
Aimee Terrin: POP artist, Judges choice.
HITLAB is pleased to announce the date of the 2009 Showcase:

Last years showcase brought Pamela, a young singer from Quebec, Canada to the world's attention and who has gone on to record a song with Akon himself. The song, "Les Sang des Innocents" features Akon singing in French for the first time.
HITLAB will also be using the Showcase to launch an exiting new radio show on Virgin 99.9 FM Toronto. The show will feature 2 HITLAB artists per week and will air for 32 weeks on Saturday nights from 10pm to 12am EST.
Who will be the next Superstar? Stay tuned!
Thank you all once again!

Akon's HITLAB.COM had predicted all 3 Lady Gaga hits
Posted by hitlab-news on 06/10/2009
MONTREAL, Oct. 7 - Thanks in no small part to his Hitlab.com website, hip-hop superstar Akon was able to correctly anticipate pop icon Lady Gaga's success to date.
Hitlab, which is owned by Akon, employs the use of its proprietary Dynamic Hit Scoring (DHS) technology to determine how likely a given song is to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
Based on a multitude of factors, an uploaded song is given a score as a percentage, with 70% generally considered to be the cut-off point between a song that has moderate and massive hit potential.
Lady Gaga, who was discovered by Akon and is signed to his Kon Live Distribution label, has had her three massive hits, "Poker Face", "Just Dance", and "LoveGame" earn DHS scores of 90% and over. In addition, all three were successfully predicted to hit the Billboard's top 5 by Hitlab, according to their analyses.
"It's what I've known all along," said Akon. "Gaga has talent. The world knows that now. It was only a matter of time before they found out too. There just isn't any holding her back."
The most-recent single from Lady Gaga's debut album The Fame (2008), "LoveGame" peaked at number five in June 2009 and is currently still ranked within the chart's top 10 as of the start of August. It notably scored a 97% DHS score, which represents one of the highest ever earned on the site.
"Just Dance", which was the album's lead single, earned a DHS score of 92%. Released in the summer of 2008, the song reached the coveted number-one spot on in early 2009. Meanwhile, "Poker Face", the follow-up single, earned a 90% score on Hitlab.
Arguably her biggest hit to date, "Poker Face" peaked at number one in April. As of the week of August 8, it was still on the chart for the 32nd week in a row, laying claim to the 23rd position.
About Akon
A world-renowned hip-hop and rhythm-and-blues artist, Akon has become one of the music industry's most recognized talents since first appearing on the scene with his debut release Trouble in 2004. He has been nominated for six Grammy awards and has had 23 songs chart on the Billboard Hot 100. As a producer and songwriter, he has worked with some of the industry',s greatest stars including Whitney Houston, Gwen Stefani, and the late Michael Jackson. For more information, please visit www.Akon.com.
About Hitlab
A social network portal for artists and listeners alike, Hitlab is reinventing the music industry with its proprietary DHS (Dynamic Hit Scoring) technology. DHS determines the hit potential of an uploaded song, measuring, among other variables, tempo and pitch, while using the past six years worth of Billboard Hot 100 singles as a basis of comparison. Through a scoring system based on DHS scores and fan votes, independent artists vie for one of eight spots to perform in front of Akon and earn a record deal with either Konvict Muzik or Kon Live Distribution. The Akon-owned, Montreal-operated website now boasts over 32,000 total users. For more information, please visit www.hitlab.com.

Thanks Slim...
Just wanted to give you a shoutout in the first entry in this blog because some folks were giving you a hard time about the uplaya.com and NPR posts...I submitted a few of the same records for both sites and both technologies gave similar results - which leads me to the point of this post.
There is no one "thing" in anyone's life I feel can be attributed to their success or failure. Life is a journey, not a destination - enjoy the ride and take in the scenery - either stop and take a long hard look along the way so that you will always learn from and remember your trials and tribulations...or...you can speed through life and focus only on one point on the map and risk missing the exit that may have gotten you to Disneyland, instead of WallyWorld.

Thanks Aimee. Sometimes failures will test you to see how strong you really are. I can sit and wallow in my failures or I can dust myself off and continue trying for the successes...I'll see you in Disneyland soon.
Slim
P.S. Saw that you changed what you said a bit. LOL!!!

I laugh whenever someone mentions failure to me...I always remember these quotes when my head appears to hang low:
'Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.'
- Abraham Lincoln
'I have not failed. I have merely found 10,000 ways that won't work.'
- Thomas Edison
'First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.'
- Mahatma Gandhi
'Whether you believe you can, or whether you believe you can't, you're absolutely right.'
- Henry Ford
'If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.'
- Henry David Thoreau
'Mistakes are the portals of discovery.'
- James Joyce
'He who keeps his face towards the sun, will find that the shadows fall behind him.'
- Old Native American Saying
'I've MISSED more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.'
- Michael Jordan
'Courage is fear holding on a minute longer.”
- George S. Patton
And lastly, perhaps the most relevant to myself:
'Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go.'
- T.S. Elliot

The Failures of Abraham Lincoln
http://www.aproundtable.org/tps2.cfm?ID=926&issuecode=history
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He summed up his life in this way: "I do the very best I know how, the very best I can, and I mean to keep doing so."
Can you remember growing up in school and those cardboard cutout profiles of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington the teacher would put on the bulletin board? These great American patriots and Presidents seemed bigger than life, folks who surely must have succeeded in just about anything they tried. But the life of Abraham Lincoln is quite a different story. He lived from 1809-1865 and most people don't know about his failures.
In 1831, Lincoln failed in business. In 1832 he was defeated for the legislature. In 1833, he failed again in business. In 1834, he was elected to the legislature, but in 1835 his sweetheart died and by 1836, he was suffering from severe mental and nervous problems. In 1838 he was defeated for Speaker. In 1840 he was defeated for elector. In 1843 he was defeated for Congress. In 1846, he was elected to Congress but lost reelection in 1848. He was defeated for the Senate in 1855, defeated for the vice-presidency in 1856, defeated again for the Senate in 1858, and in 1860, he was elected President of the United States.
While Abraham Lincoln was a young boy, he often would cut wood and carry a book nearby in case he had any idle moments. One day while he was sitting on the ground, intently reading a law book, a squire passed by and called out, "Hello, Abe. What are you doing? Studying law? Expect to be President someday?"
"Don't know," replied the young Lincoln. "But I'm gonna get ready for anything God may have for me to do."

Hey Aimee,
Congrats on your showcase performance, I'm sure it's very well deserved.
My only probelem with hitlab.com is that computer software can only go so far. It doesn't detect lyrical or vocal performance, just beat and melody.
There's also a slight problem with the $29.99 charge for software to screen a song. 23,000 artists at 29.99 apiece = $690,000. Not a bad chunk of change for a system which is, at best, dubious.
I do wish you the very best of luck with your showcase, but cannot support the devious nature of sites like these, that take good money from the gullible and desperate ( and mostly not so talented ) artists of the world.
Heck, you can send me 29.99 and I'll give you 100% every time. ;)
cheers, niteshift

I knew Abraham Lincoln. He chopped down the cherry tree and this ended slavery. He also invented Capt Crunch cereal, most people don't know that. Did you know that he wrote the Gettysburg address while on morphine, he had a flu with a temperature of 108!
Politicians ain't the way they used to be.
I remember back before the internet killed the music business. There was a man called Chuck Berry who didn't care who gave a hoot about rock and roll music. Motown signed him and he turned that town into a hit machine, writing The Locomotion and Up on the Roof and even some hits by Mama Cass.
But none of it would've happened if not for Abraham Lincoln, who in his log cabin had 3 Marshall amplifiers and a copy of the US Constitution.

Niteshift...
Valid arguments on your part - I subscribe to a small handful of sites, including IAC obviously and HITLAB...The internet is a lonely place and similar to television, most of my surfing is for mostly entertainment and business...but sometimes unexpectedly the two merge...honestly, you just never know...
And to Old Man Warner...
I just laughed outloud...too funny

Chuck Berry wrote many hits for Mama Cass (twenty-three in all), but was not the composer of her well-known song 'It's Getting Better', which was actually written by Isaac Hayes during the time he was a session bass horn funk player in Memphis (he played on 'Lesley Gore In Memphis'). It was Isaac's friendship with Peter Asher (of Peter & Gordon fame) that persuaded The Beatles to record that song and include it on their 'Sgt Pepper' album and re-name it 'It's Getting Better'. When The Beatles split up, Isaac temporarily replaced Gordon Waller in Peter & Gordon and was co-writer of their last hit single 'Daydream Believer', which is not to be confused with The Monkees song of the same name, which was called 'I'm A Believer' and written by Carole King and Carole Bayer Sager. Their Christmas album 'Two Christmas Caroles' is now a collector's item and features both versions of 'I'm Getting Better'.

It's true - both John Lennon and Stuart Sutcliffe (brother of Peter) secretly collaborated with Mike Smith and Dave Clark from The Dave Clark Five to produce all but one of Manfred Mann's hits - the exception being 'My Little Girl Ways' which was written by Dave Springfield (better known in his dragged-up guise of Dusty Springfield). Stuart Sutcliffe was taught bass Stylophone by Smokey Robinson while on holiday in Memphis in 1967.
