Embedding and syndication
Hi. I'm trying to find out whether it's a good idea or not to say yes to embedding and syndication. I appreciate that it helps promotion but what is the situation with copyright of the video, music, lyrics, photos, etc. Because I worry about the copyright issues myself, I don't use images from the other sources and only use photos my family and I t took. Even photos taken by my children are used with their permission. I don't know though whether it's wise to say yes or no to embedding and syndication. May I please ask you whether you'd be kind enough to share your thoughts on this subject. Thank you.

Hi Nadia
This is too hard----as you can
see from ALL the replies--
I applaud your use of your own art /photos/ images as many, grab images from
public domain, and while they may make a great show----it is not really "them"
------------if you know what I mean!!
I think it all depends on why you make vids----are you trying to reach a monster audience or are your vids for a chosen few---like your fans and friends
If you leave the code anyone can copy it and use that on ANY site
if you remove the code peeps can only link back to where you have posted the vid
So ?????????????????????????????????????????????

Hi Nadia ...
I'm only an expert at knowing little ... but here are some thoughts ...
I take it you are speaking of your own vids, and worried about someone violating your Copyright and misusing your Vid's or music ... if you allow embedding.
I think it comes down to your beliefs on trade off values of cons and pros ...
If i were ever good enough to have someone want to use my vid in the first place ...
Two of the biggest cons imo would be my vid being used on a site that was promoting something that I was totally against ... the second would be outright theft of the song ... and also the thought of someone else profiting from your material ...
The Pros are endless ... I love seeing some of my old favorites plastered around the web, seeing home vids or vids that have been underground of the old bands .. that's just the nostalgia part ..
but often I have followed up on NEW bands that I never would have found if someone hadn't embedded them in some website I was at ... (such as IAC) ... Exposure is free advertising imo ...
Now as far as using others materials in your vids ... Photo's you take (even of other people) you don't need permission to show them to the world anymore, unless you are going to use them for profit ...
I wanted to learn to make videos to go with my music ... and I have no recorder ... so I downloaded pieces of vids I found on youtube for the vid ... on "Flicker" I contacted the original video posters and asked permission before I did so ... i could probably get in trouble for "Everybody's got a song" because it was my first attempt and I just grabbed vid and used it ...
All that being said ... in today's world of technology, I don't need the embed function to download your (or anyone else's video) ... I have free programs installed on my computer that will allow me to grab ANY streaming video, ANY mp3, mp4 or any other formatted audio or video on the web ... a person can then edit, cut, overdub etc.etc. and upload the vid anywhere they want ... not legally mind you, but it's way to widespread to police properly ...

Hi Rob and Sam, thank you so much for answering so fully to my question. After your replies I feel happy to have my videos embedded. It seems the right thing to do these days. I know, my videos aren't perfect but I put a lot of heart and soul into them and that's why I really wanted to make sure that my recently positive answer to embedding and syndication makes sense in my case. Thank you again.
Best wishes and good luck with your vids and your songs,
Nadia
