So far, about halfway through the first track "No One Loves Me & Neither Do I" all I can say is "somebody please help me get my jaw off the floor".
Rock is NOT dead.

Man, they are really letting JPJ fly his Zep here and there. Sounds like he might be giving Page and Plant the finger.
And, Recall, I realize rock is not dead as long as guys like you are around to fan the flames, but you get what I am saying......

HA. If Bruce thinks it sucks he will never speak to me again.....
I'm about halfway through, so far the only thing that sucks is "Interlude with Ludes", but it SUCKS HARD. Can't win 'em all, I suppose.

Once the big riff kicked in on "No One Loves Me" I was sold, then the beginning of Mind Eraser, No Chaser is soooooo Zep. Elephants and Scumbag Blues are kick ass. Scumbag has those cool Cream vocals and JPJ getting after it on keys. For $10 I'm happy with it. A lot of it is very Queens of the New Stone Age, but that ain't so bad, plus there are all kinds of other "classic" nods. Don't forget, I am an "olderish" fart head. John Paul Jones gets my rock and roll weenie all tingly.
Let's see what Bruce thinks.
Anybody else - Them Crooked Vultures? Whaddaya think?

After a few times through it, I'm still sold, except the Ludes track. SUCKS.
But, I just sat on my ass and clicked "Buy", I didn't take my first born to the CD store....

I'm sorry ... there are no ex-Beatles involved. I can't listen. Allegiances have been violated.
Musical political treaties have been ignored. Dave Grohl PROMISED to never be in a band where any former member of Led Zeppelin is a member.
For membership reasons alone, this is wrong. There is a public contract people hold when they choose to participate in projects they don't belong.
The art suffers ... unless it doesn't. Wait ... who are the players here?
It stands and falls on its own. Forget the players.

i'm a big fan of queens and zep, those two and nirvana keep the rock n roll dot to dots pointing to hope for the next generation,.. like a constelation Them Crooked Vultures map out the fundamental path to beelzy's lair via deals gone good for the fans
fuckin love it!
it's complex and deep, I need to listen to it 100 more times before I can say if it will be a classic
btw,.. you guys ever get into "mad season"? ..another great collaboration worth mentioning while we are on the subject.
I picked up (after my first born put the kung fu puppy eyes on me) 2 Muse cds that are kicking my ass.
I see rock n roll living strong, fuck satch silver back doodiehole

It might be a classic, someday, but for now I give it props for being what it is, a damn fine set. Except the ludes song, I want my money back on that one.
I also went ahead and sprang for Strange Sensations "Mighty Re-arranger". I saw them play in a VERY small venue (basically a bar) on a warm up before the tour a few years back. Plant was in good voice, the band is good, and it IS a band that just happens to be fronted by Plant. I had heard most of the CD before, just never bought it. It's worth looking in to, if you haven't done so.
My plan is to put them side by side and watch them fight. The winner gets to kick the crap out of Chickenfoot.

I watched Plant's band (pretty sure it was the same one) recently on Austin City Limits, I have been pining over how baddass those guys was too.
and then Page gets all cocainy and hooks up with Coverdale and makes an album way better than any whitesnake hurl shit, but still bites the big one (IMstuckupO)
Vultures get better each listen,.. (into #3 right now)

DO NOT, under any circumstances, be tempted by Whitesnake's 2008 "Good to be Bad". I doubt if any one IS tempted, but just in case.....

fyi - 2 weeks later and this album is epic
listen after listen opens up new layers and details only revealed from familiarity.
Dave Grohl says the next cd will be even more powerfull, which he also mentioned is on it's way. John Paul Jones hs made it clear that the band has no intention of slowing down. They have allready scheduled two more shows to meet the demand in Australia.
life is good
rock and roll lives

I got it.
Only gave it a couple of listens so far. Yeah, there are a couple of epic moments on there, for sure; usually it's when they get their Zeppelin on.
Other than that, it's just a good hard rock album, nothing more, nothing less.

yeah, todd, i'd say about half of the reviews say what you said.
for me, queens of the stone age has been my favorite rock band since dave joined in 2002, but, before queens, only led zepelin could scratch that rock itch, heh.
..so, i can see how true music connoisseurs are holding out for more bang.
the sum of the band is prob greater than the stepping stone of an album this debut is, but i hve a feelling this is just the beginning.
