PATRIZIAS EP IS A JOURNEY THROUGH THE LOSS OF LOVED ONES
One of BravoFact’s Best Canadian Female Vocalists, Patrizia’s new single, “I Won't Stop Believin” is now available in a 5 song EP on itunes along with remixes of “On The Brink” “My Beloved” and her version of Radiohead’s “Creep”. “All of these songs were born out of intense struggle and personal loss,” explains Patrizia, “having lost 5 loved ones to cancer during the recording and currently dealing with a 6th one, this EP is a meaningful one for me.”
The song “On The Brink” was written and sung with the feeling of being on the brink of a break down, of wanting to run away. Patrizia explains “When I began recording the CD with Steve Thompson my beloved father was in his last days fighting cancer and I was driving in the middle of the night to St. Catharines to be with my father and returning to record...it was the most stressful period in my life...all of my teeth ached from all the stress.”
“My Beloved” is based on the music of Beethoven's "The Moonlight Sonata" and the lyrics are inspired by Patrizia’s personal experience of the "moment" when one must say the final goodbye to a loved one.
““Creep” is very close to my heart,” says Patrizia, “as someone who grew up feeling like a misfit, being bullied for being different, the song expresses all the pain that an outsider like myself, a "weirdo' would feel. This is my own personal interpretation.”
“I Won't Stop Believin” the new single which was released to radio across Canada last month is about her faith that despite all the struggles, the pain, the disappointments, she will succeed. “To succeed in establishing who I truly am as an artist, to break free from being labeled and being put in a box by a narrow minded music industry,” Patrizia explains. “They will not silence my voice just because I don't fit the mold and I will continue to make my own rules.”
Patrizia with her 4-octave operatic voice is an interpreter of songs, utilizing different vocal characters to express what the song is about. “This is a residual from my operatic training where you use the voice to serve the music. My approach in the studio is to tear the voice apart and then rebuilt it according to what the core emotion is. This is why when you are listening to these songs the vocal colours are diverse sounding like different people.”
For 2011, the physical EP with these songs + two more originals will be released and Patrizia is conceiving a CD release show where the elements of fashion and art will be a strong feature that will enhance the story of the music. No boundaries.
