New Member Here!
Salutations from Billy 'The Jack'. I didn't make that name up for myself, it was given to me at an old Neo-Burlesque Review that I worked for (I wasn't a performer 'though, something about looking horrible in pasties and lack of serious dance moves). I've read a bit from some of the active members here I've been entertained to say the least. I haven't listened to any music yet because I'm such a newbie, but I'll get there soon.
Here's my thought for today: some bands start out with specific genres in mind I know I've done it in the past, and have failed each time. As an experiment out of pure boredom, I set some of my old metal riffs to old-school rockabilly/rhythm and blues riffs and am really digging the sound, which brought me here.
Some people start projects with specific genres in mind, while others (like me) just sort of pull things out of their butts to see what smells nice in the fresh air. I'm having difficulty with genres concerning my project and would appreciate some insights about what others hear in my 'sound' especially since I don't know anybody here personally.
I enjoy most forms of energetic, aggressive and rockin' music, from the old Chess and Sun Records stuff, country and rockabilly from the 50's and early '60's, soul, disco and funk from the '70's, basic hard rock and punk, some industrial, techno and whatever I may find in the future. And I would be more than willing to reciprocate with others in my situation to help find the written words to define a sound.
www.modernthrowbacks.com is my website and I'll check back here later. Long Live Rock and Roll!

Wicked, Daddio, wicked!
When you let that thing loose it rips and rocks. I would say it sounds like Rawkenroll.
I am not a musician, just an innocent bystander, so what do I know? I know when it rocks.

entertainment is way better than money,.. as a matter of PURE fact, MOST people pay good money to entertained.
i've noticed this place houses artists who think they can have songs up in hip hop, metal, folk, pop, classic rock, world, country, punk, and so on,.. all on the same page.
genre placing is probably the biggest SNAFU of this whole site.
