A midweek outing to Jagz was our pleasure this week. We were guest artists for Sonny Black's http://www.sonnyblack.co.uk/? Acoustic Roots evening. He started everything off with a great set of his beautiful, effortless looking but so complex it can't possibly be as easy as he makes it look, finger picking acoustic guitar and laid back singing style. A hard act to follow, we then did our first set and then after a break there were a few open mic style acts including Sonny's daughter who has a lovely voice and great piano style and Finch, a singer songwriter who we had seen once before, she has a really real quality about her which is very appealing. She has written a lovely song about her father which I really liked. We then did a second set to round off the evening.
Jagz is an amazing venue and I have to say I suffered with a bit of the 'I am not worthies' there, knowing how such amazing acts have been there before. Slightly intimidated I was despite efforts not to be and so I didn't really feel I settled in all evening. We held our own though and were talking to Graham Steel, event organiser extraordinairre, afterwards about the advertising blurb that bands use and how important it is to get it right to inspire people to come and see you. It got us thinking about our own description of what we do and how we could usefully describe it since we slide across genres between Blues, Folk and Jazz and wouldn't really fit neatly into any of them. So.............
We are asking for you to help us to think of a new way of describing what we do that is inspiring and descriptive. Please can you have a listen, maybe come and see us live, then have a think and email us with your thoughts? walkerbroad@broad.ology.org.uk
There's more to listen to on our website
Look forward to it and please be kind!
