Wait a minute... I've actually heard this particular record...
you're telling me, that this Nate fellow is, offspring of
either Stevie Wonder or Michael Jackson?
Could you explain that a bit?

The young man doesn't sound like either Michael or Stevie. Also, I saw a video of him and he looks either Hispanic or Asian (Filipino?). I doubt this very talented kid has any Black in him. But, according to DNA historians we all have some African in us because all cultures originated in Africa. Whatever the case, he is very talented!

I think I hear shades of both in his style, regardless of his nationality.

Ohhhh...
You meant as an 'influence' sort of thing.
I thought it was literal.
Silly me. ~L

Don't you know this is how we hype up things on the internet?

Uh, I suppose I have a better idea of that now.
Be sure and hear the New American Lesley Jane
and New BEATLESEX Records.
They Are The Best The World Has To Offer!
You mean kinda like that then?

No, we already knew you thought that.
What i was thinking of was more along the lines of..
Priscilla Presley heard my music and now she wants to move into Graceland with me.

I don't think anything. Can't keep a thought in my head more than two seconds.
You do not live in Graceland, nor does she, therefore this statement is illogical.

Oh, I see now. Ya didn't mean to say that he was "really" related. Just meant to say that his voice is similar. Well, not enough inflections, whoops and hollers for Michael and not enough soulful runs for Stevie. But I think he has something special. I think he has his own sound. Wish there were a lot more singers like him here at IMP. Like the rest of the music industry, the R&B sound is not well represented here. Some say R&B is dead. If you go by record sales it is probably true. Good to see young folks performing it. Maybe it will come back some day. One can only hope. Keep hope alive......

That's easy to say but I never heard that song before, what song are you comparing it to?

i'm generalizing, Scott. I found nothing spectacular about that song to make it stand out from any other homogenized pop wanna be song.
Safe production, safe lyric, safe melody, safe structure. nothing exciting, and nothing to making it stand out like Stevie or MJ. I think comparing it to either of those artist is an extreme stretch, despite Dan's acknowledgement (which I humbly respect)
Standing on it's own, it doesn't suck, it is actually very well performed and produced.
..and completely boring (to me) unlike SW & MJ

well for me it's as good as most of Jacko's hits, not in the same class as Stevie though.
I thought it was very hooky though, better than any soul song I've heard on the mainstream in awhile.

I liked MJ best when he was young and black. I even covered one of his early songs.

What's with all the negative reviews?
Aren't we a collective of Indie Musicians to appreciate and show support to
Everyone's contributions to music on this site?
That being said, I don't think Nate Guinto sounds that much
to either Michael or Stevie, but it does sound good.
Very laid-back groove and vibe, something to play in a romantic setting
or to just relax by. Song is well written, produced and performed.
To me it sounds like something Bruno Mars would record, sounds more like his style than MJ or SW.
I have a few songs myself in similar style, but I don't have to voice to carry it as well as this singer. His voice fits his song very well.

Now, I definitely agree with the Bruno Mars comparison. He does have a lot of his tones and runs. Bruno (in my opinion) is one of the most soulful Pop artists out right now. I know an artist is really good when I can't stop playing their CD. I play Bruno a lot. Plus my wife says he has got that cute factor going on. Have to take that with a grain of salt because she thinks I am sexy also. :) But I think you are dead on with that comparison!
