Just out of curiosity, how long did it take you to get 500 plays?

I like watching the numbers too
It's a big advantage of this site----we can track the popularity of any song we put up!!
congratulations

The numbers intrigue me as well. It's hard to measure how well one is doing without knowing what kind of plays other artists are getting and how long it took them to get the plays. I've been here for one month and my highest ranking song (Brother John) has gotten 1587 votes. Next is She's An Angel with 1453 and thenTower of Love with 1333. Is that good? Or is that sort of average for one month? I guess the longer you remain at IAC the higher the numbers go. That's why the amount of time one has been here has to be figured into any self assessment of the numbers. I would also love to hear from some of these listeners as to why they chose to listen to a certain song and what they liked abut it. It seems that the same people do all the posting in Recent Topics and make all the comments on the comment pages. So hey listeners out there: let's hear why you're listening to our songs. Personally I never would have put She's An Angel and Tower of Love that high and it fascinates me that they are
ranked as high as they are. I guess it's hard to be objective about one's own songs. My favs are not the favs of others and my non-favs are favs of others.
Go figure! But as long as people are listening and enjoying, then I'm satisfied.
Listeners, come forward and don't be shy! We want to hear from you!

in my experience, the play count is oddly seasonal - in feb and may, my best song pulled barely 200 hits, my worst only 7 hits in a whole month...
now my hits are increasing again- i'd be content, at this time of year, with your stats, richard, but if you want to break into the top 50s i think you'll need to step it up.
the queerest thing, is that number of hits its not proportional to chart positioning, my second highest ranked song has had the second lowest number of hits???

This is due to the stream completion factor which measures what percentage of a song is listened to before somebody turns you off.

I've got 18 radio stations playing my songs and I have one those site-wide ads.
One of the stations is run by Cashbox Magazine.I try to stay visible but what else can I do to "step it up". I've got a good slide showand a wide variety of songs. Of course, I'm writing new songs which I hope will exceed what the previous ones have done but in the mean time I don't know what else to do. I put messages on lot's of shout boxes of radio stations and I frequently change the order of songs. I always thank stations for adding me as well. As far as making the top 50, I'm kinda close since my song Brother John is 66 in it's genre. But to tell you the truth, IAC is a tool for me to guage the the effectiveness of songs in relationship to one another and to see what styles of mine are the most listened to. It doesn't bother that I may never win any awards here. I just do the best I can and I'm grateful for whatever listeners I get. Maybe I'm just not good enough! But I enjoy what I do. Awards can be somewhat arbitrary. I've won plenty of awards for these same songs in song contests, so who knows? I think that the the genre has something to do with it. In some circles, my stuff is more highly reagrded than in others. I think I'd do better here if I wrote and produced in styles that tend to be more popular here. Internet music sites tend to skew in a certain direction. Unfortunatley, my songs may not be "modern" enough, but as I mentioned before, maybe I'm just not good enough to impress large numbers of listeners here. I thought that after only one month I was doing pretty well but apparantly I'm not. That's life. Of course I would love to win awards here but that's not my main objective at IAC and it idoesn't mean that my songs can't do well in other venues.
Almost every one of my 17 songs is on a radio station and one station plays 3 songs so I must be doing something right. But I agree that there is always room for improvement and for trying new things.

Since I last posted my stats, they've all gone on substantially. Top 3 are now 1883.1622,1589 ."Brother John has gone from 66 to 58 in it's genre. Large gains were made in the other songs as well. That seems to be the way my numbers move.
I won't get any plays for a couple of days and then all of a sudden I get big jumps in all the songs. I assume that whoever keeps track of these things waits until there are a substantial number of plays before adding them. They usually don't creep up incrementally. They seem to be added in blocks rather than one at a time. When it rains, it pours!
