I spotted this old topic, and had to respond.
This was a rather pivotal song in my little life when I was little.
It was the early 1960s, Peter Paul and Mary's song,
Michael, Row Your Boat Ashore was one of my favorites...
also a favorite was "Green Green" by The New Christy Minstrels,
which probably no one remembers now...
A whole wave of music was effectively washed to the side
when the British Invasion came, and four young men suddenly
ruled the world.
My parents had divorced, my brother was still an infant,
my visiting Dad had taken me to Cunningham Park,
walking about in the woods and picnic areas and such,
I saw on a nearby bench, a young man and young woman,
hanging out a a picnic table, and the man had a guitar...
this was the first time, I actually saw someone with a guitar,
though I imagine I had seen them on television,
because even as a tot, I recognized, it was a musical instrument,
and I must have said something my father understood,
to the effect of "I wonder if they know Michael Row Your Boat Ashore"
Well, next thing you know, me dad asked them if they knew that,
and they said yes, and he said 'would you mind playing it for my son?'
and they said they'd be happy to, and he played, the guy,
and they both sang it, and I'm getting teary eyed thinking about it now...
probably got a bit teary eyed then, but I absolutely loved it.
It may have been that exact moment, that I became a musician,
nothing in the world was more awesome, than being able to sing and play,
it suddenly seemed.

That was a really good story and exactly the kind of thing we'd like to see more around here. Artists feeling things, reacting, telling us all they want to tell about themselves, their dreams, in all their richest colors.

Lyin' Dan,
I begin to fathom.
You call yourself Lyin' Dan so it goes undetected
when you speak routine (routine to us) cosmic truths,
and yet, every so often, you throw in a lie,
just so your name isn't one. Very clever. Astute and quite nearly profound.
No such song however that I know of exists,
unless you now intend to write it, just to prove me wrong,
and I would not put it past you.
Look at that.
Michael Row Your Boat Ashore is a first ever one for many of us.
Whatta ya know. It's a small world after all.
Cheers, and God Bless...

Frannie,
if you lived closer,
I'd say, let's you and I do a version of this,
(Michael Hoe Your Nose Asea or whatever it is...)
But wow, it's a long walk to Scotland.
Almost as long as to Tipperary.
Well, in my mind's eye, we already did,
we were brilliant. It's a fun place in my mind.
I have a chorus line of different colored dancing bears.
Courtesy of The Grateful Dead. Who really are both. I'd know. Whoohoo.
No Teddy Bears were harmed in the filming of this post,
filmed on location, in Ellenberg NY,
amidst a few mulling cows, some mooing, some moaning softly
for no apparent reason, cows can get sad too. you didn't know that?
so now you know. ; )
