Respect and disrespect
Do you mind when people disrespect you? What kind of qualities do you think merit respect?
Do you prefer being in a respectful environment or a disrespectful one? Do you come on to social media daily wanting to rip people a new one or are you generally in friendly spirits?

Man, you gotta let people be sometimes. I think there was a lot of good stuff on those threads. Very entertaining this morning. Yeah, there was a little "friction" but all in all, it was cool. Makes me wonder why I even bother posting on any threads now.

Seemed like it was directed at people trying to put out positive vibes. I guess if the friction's going in your direction it can be fun. I know as a fact Brody didn't find it fun.

I know that, but there was some really positive stuff posted on Brody's thread. Stoneman and I were both very positive. Yeah, I laughed at Bryon's seagull comment, but so what? If we were all hanging out at a club I am sure we would all kid each other some! Come on! You know we would be clownin' and killin' each other with jokes.

Well ultimately the idea of a songwriting contest was treated with contempt. When Verity was doing this back in the day it didn't go like that.

Sometimes you have to let something sit for a few days before people jump on. Stuff (I could have said "shit" but said "stuff" instead because I don't want to offend the sensitive types!) doesn't happen the second you post!

the songwriting thing was not treated with contempt, i was posting in response after the seagull thing, and poof the blog was done, gone. now the seagull flying pooping, that happened to me , twice it is good luck in Indian lore, man big Fing Whoop, I considered doing a song, but have other projects, now, talk about respect,. none of us posting here right now, are not paragons of virtue. are we becoming so thin skinned not to be able to poke fun. or respond in a manner that is funny, yes, maybe not appropriate in Brody's world we have seen a lot worse.
new people. are they better then us. they better get used to the reality of life and all the creatures that haunt this place

well the newies better put on their armor. i mean. are we suppose to be different because a few new people show up. we have seen far far worse here even recently then what went on here today. and there was no disrespect intended, it might have been interpreted that way, but none intended. like Larree said, its like in a bar, or shop talk, or trump talk lol. and it seem real strange all the posters deleted their posts, like is it the same person. if not, well no apologies from me.
generally I put up subjects that are thought provoking interesting and meant to challenge peoples minds. as you do Scott, but if the whoever deleted their posts cant take a jab in the rib, or punch, like kidding around and having fun ,well i feel they are too bloody sensitive and thinskinned

I considered myself one of the friendliest people around here. thats the truth, I bring a lot to the table. and today was just one of those things, it was not a matter of being unfriendly, that is ludicrous, it was not being disrespectful , that is an assumptive take it just was spontaneous. so what. I was trying to explain on Brody's blog afterwards of my intent of the challenge, which was a good idea. but then it disappeared right after i put together an explanation of where I was in my own song developing thing, i have 3 projects, one with a new singer redoing vocals, Duane on a song, and one with Steve April. i had something in mind. and wanted to continue it on brody's blog

Huh? What happened? I thought we were all just joking around about Seagul Poop. Did that offend someone? I am so sorry if anything I said offended someone. I was basically trying to be self depreciating about writing a song on cue. If someone was being an arse I didn't see it. But yeah I was seriously going to try to write a song even in the middle of the madness that is going on in my studio this week. Once again, sorry if I offended someone. I really meant no disrespect.
Sincerely,

I don't think it was you, Stoneman. I think Brody thought Bryon was mocking him for trying to do a songwriting challenge, made him feel like an idiot for trying. For some people it's not easy trying to put on a positive face and he was facing naysayers on both of the threads he put up in that vein.
Then of course the second somebody removes their thread Larree jumps in blaming the site as he does every single time. I am so tired of the same free speech argument. Is it really that hard for people to understand that we don't really have a pipeline so it can be used to run down the site and people who are trying to help?
I'd like to see the pipeline become more of an uplifting scene. Creative posts where everybody is part of the same team, is the world too cynical to go that route anymore? Lemme tell you, I work too hard in all aspects to keep things rolling here to be constantly treated like some sort of adversary. I don't want to be sucked up to for that but we provide a lot of positive things for indies here not to mention we actually care if you live or die, unlike the other sites. We're better than this goofing on anyone who likes the place. It pleases us when somebody likes IMP.

I think we all know and appreciate how hard you work to make this a great place for indies. I agree with you 1005 about making this place a lot more positive. But you know there are certain people here that positive shit does not mix well with. So, you should expect there to be times when the positive vibe gets dissed. Some have been doing it so long that they don't even realize they are doing it when they do it. Others feel empowered by today's world of negative crap and think that they should be spreading that crap everywhere they go. Kind of hard to ignore it but it is the way of the world right now. I am hopeful that it will change but I have no faith in that. People often follow the bandwagon all the way to hell. It sucks but it is what it is.

Well I for one, dont accept the blame on the thread, it was a spontaneous reaction. not intentional it is how someone reacts, that is not my fault, and Scott lets face it, there have been many times you have done similar things, we all have, sometimes on purpose and sometimes for fun, I like to say, I see a double standard here, due to the way this place has been for a long time, myself, well I tried to change that with bringing subjects that are meaningful uplifting and beneficial.
As it stands, it seems that we are going in a direction that will be rigid, will some like that no, also ,are we pandering to the few, toning down our actions, it seems so, like am I pointing the finger at myself, i guess so, but there have been very few times when I have over reacted, or dissed anyone or called people out, and or made fun of. Never have I done that, and I have never been disparaging of anyone to make them look bad.
I find it fascinating the sudden change in behavior and being asked to moderate our behavior, 99 % of the time. i am respectful, considerate, but i have seen many here, show complete and utter disregard for me and others in the past. shit happens. this is a community that has been built up over the years and certain people expect others to be a certain way now, we are being asked to tone it down. or else,. then what happens if we dont fulfill this new code of behavior after all the years, many years of it being a certain way.
Funny times. feels like either tow the line, walk this way,. be little good boys and girls because daddy said so.

yeah I hear you Bryon, I realize quite well that I've usually been trying to make people open up here, and now it looks like I'm going in the opposite direction. I don't like that that I'm coming across so rudderless. I don't know what the right thing to do here is, to be honest. Brody just resigned, don't think he'll be around here anymore, he's done with artist drama of all sorts. I also decided to fire Bluto as moderator for various reasons, his handling of the situation with Zeeza and also because nobody respects him at all, obviously. He still may post here as a listener account. Then again if the respect thing is a reason to fire him I should probably fire myself too.
To please the free speech element it seems like we're required to let folks slam the site and staff with no restriction. So let's try that i guess. if i get fed up i might become a fascist. Why you'd want your home music site to look beleagered is a mystery to me but that seems to be what people desire deeply enough to hassle me about the freedom to do so.
So everybody put it down here in this thread, why does IMP suck?
Just a few comments before you start..
if you hate the appearance of the site, we don't have the resources to change it, and i don't forsee we will any time soon, so forget that. I personally like the design, then again I designed much of it, would like more templates but that requires programming we don't have resources for.
If you hate the musicology department and you want us to mostly feature members based on their seniority and status here as opposed to how we rate their music, well that's not happening either. I think the reason folks even want on Kayak is because we've kept such a high standard there. It's something I take very seriously and if I'm told I must do something differently than what I'm doing there, I'm out.
If you hate the name of the place and want us to change it back, no.
If you hate me and want me out, well, you might be able to achieve that but I'm not sure the site could survive with many of the assets you're used to.
Most of my efforts are directed at bringing new artists and listeners to the site. I do understand that many here seemingly would prefer we don't even bother with that, considering the lack of word-of-mouth we've been getting.
We're a joke as Bryon said within these walls but people believe in IMP on the outside, I see it every day. I have folks who listen to the Kayak Big 25, the complete show, something probably most of you have never done because you don't really get the fuss about indie music if you yourself aren't in the mix.
Bryon from my vantage point it seems like you're treated with deep reverence across the board, I find it odd you feel disrespected. You won all your categories at the Golden Kayaks by ridiculous margins. But I also find it odd that so many in the crowd here find fault in so many things about the site when we provide far more features than the corporate sites that are out there. and at no cost at all.
Anyway to summarize, Brody and Bluto out, say what you want. If I feel the disrespect seeping thru my pores too much, I may leave myself. Have at it.

Scott, I meant in the past, there have been some stupid things said about me, last year when I was trying to finish my project, and said I wont be around for awhile to complete it then some bunch of no count noggin heads pipe up and said no time no time for finding his socks in the dryer. and a bunch of other dumb ass stuff, I have it somewhere on my thread, or maybe I deleted it, no I know I have a lot of people who like me, or what I do, maybe my music is part of it,not that it is knockout stuff, but I know I just try my best, maybe people just like me. as a person, perhaps I have a fair number of fans and supporters
I want this place to succeed, I have stood by it through thick and thin, through ups and downs. like a good solid core of us have, for years in those lean times when no one hardly showed up.
I just felt like here we are being told to tow a different set of behavior, now I am pretty staid and have standards here, and try to show respect. yes, at times I slip., this is a family , a community, and group of believers who have been steadfast and we do the best we can, as you have done to turn the ship around, it is a hard job, but things seem to be looking better,
carry on your good works

I gotta say that the last Golden Kayak award show was totally cool, and gave me a bit of motivation to up my music game some. I have other writing projects going on, but my fingers are definitely flying these days.
Second Life party, anyone? I have an SL gig tonight at 11 PM SLT (PST). :D

Yeah, sorry to see Brody leave. Also, Bluto's interventions were much needed at times from my vantage point. But I don't see anything wrong with IMP. It is a great place and I wouldn't keep coming back if it wasn't. Sure, we have our squabbles from time to time but even the most bitter bouts usually wind up with public apologies. Pretty much regular familial shit really. It happens. But that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the site. It just means that people are involved and people everywhere suck. Can't live with them and can't live without them. They suck, I suck, hell, we all suck at something. But we keep trying to do our best and that is all that really matters. We all keep coming back to chat, share music and ideas beyond the scope of music. When I see someone come around that hasn't been here for a long time it is like seeing a long lost relative. I mean what more could you ask of a site? Great artists, music, features and friends. I am thankful to have such a place to come to. We all should be. At least, that is how I see it.
Much Respect,
Stoneman

Scott, As for featuring other members here on the Kayak radio thing, my thought is this, not me, I dont bloody care about being on the Kayak, I have had enough radio play and streaming and playlistings of my own I have made over the years and as a sideman with the bluevoodoo. this point I made was obviously misinterpreted, I meant, the classic bands and artists who you (Scott) brought here way back, it had nothing to do with seniority,or who been here the longest that still hangs around here, i dont give a rats ass about that at all, I have had my jumping for joy moments on radio, yahoo, those days are almost gone anyways, Streaming is the new radio, like Spotify, Groove. others that now there are people ( promoters and publicists) who pitch to the streaming stations on Spotify, it is huge, , the shift from terrestrial radio is happening, people here need to learn that and study and take advantage of how to monetize their songs. there is a huge market there, and one can make a decent coin learning about it and how it works
Back to my point on featuring people, . There are some classic amazing songs from way back like 2004-05, I only suggested maybe having a one off program, but if not at least feature some of the solo acts and artists from back in the day from the beginnings and creation of this site
Now , I have brought people and bands here, I have a voodoohead productions station where I feature artists I have promoted, i have not brought that many, maybe 10 handfuls perhaps, whatever that is. . now there was a time when things turned sour, and the anons ruled the place. and it got freaking ugly as sin around here, it had become a shitpot . that i could not stand, and stopped bringing people here for that very reason. recently though I have mentioned IMP on Facebook, there are those here that can vouch for that, so i have done my part and stand behind you to continue your work, because I dont think anyone else has the passion desire and drive for the indie culture as you do Scott.
Now saying that, I have had my disagreements with you, granted. and my personal take on things, but you are the captain steering the ship, so we all have to keep swabbing the decks and welcoming new artists, I have done this for a long time consistently as a handful of others have non stop ,there are believers, there are people who love this place. I am one of those, else I be gone ages ago, I have big plans for myself, I have a number of things I want to do as an artist before I kick the bucket, i am getting to the 3 score and 10 man. so you never know when my last breath is gonna be. until then I salute your efforts and the many others who maintain this place
cheers all

That is the spirit I like, honesty and not those vague fuzzy general compliments about the site that some people seem to post about. like "I love this site, its so nice" yeah, nice is not a compliment. I would like to see honesty here. I am glad that big stupid moose head moderator has been turned off. I would like to see more human intervention here, not fake nice people who have nothing to add except suck up compliments to gain something from the CEO. FT has had his share of giving rides on his back like a family horse. He has no say in who gets featured or not, so don't bother.
