Anybody here see the movie Whiplash?
I just saw it. Incredible music movie, I found it highly motivational, every artist should see it. I'd add that Melissa Benoist is the girlfriend in the movie which is why I watched in the first place.

Yeah, I saw that, a good while ago...
Actually didn't even notice Benoist in it, I was focusing on the music,
and the message of self-discipline...
a part which sort of struck me on the head,
was the revelation that Charlie Parker
would not have become the Charlie Parker we know,
had someone not told him he sucked, and possibly
threw a cymbal at his head or something....
but because of that rejection, he went off,
you know, like, "oh I'll show you, I'll show you all"....
okay he also became a heroin addict, there was the downside,
rejection hurts, then you try to sooth the hurt, good luck with that...
but he did ultimately become basically untouchable,
Charlie Parker, speaks languages with that saxophone most
of us don't even know....
but anybody can listen and marvel. Because he did it,
he didn't stop, he didn't accept 'good enough'.
Oh I got that movie's message real good.
Now I'm workin' on the 'show everybody' part.

well, I will concur with you insofar as I will say,
kicking the shit out of one's self to push one to greater heights,
there may be something to that.
Even if it ain't pretty to watch, and it ain't.

Yes, great movie with a great message about shooting for the goal of greatness and not giving up. Everyone should see it but I think artists will find it particularly inspiring.

I had a few of those in my life. literally. ended up in hospital once with a punch to the side of the head.bam, ambulance ride. under observation , recovered, concussion. effects lasted sometime, no fun. but shit kicking from things or decisions one made that flops and pick oneself up, and carry on, everyone of us has had disappointments, either by ones own doing or circumstances beyond our control

yes, do not punch self in head. bad. do not bang head against walls and floors , apparently I did that as a real young kid my mom said, that is weird, ? strange eh. anyways sucker punches are uncool
