Good stories about your songs
Lemme start. ok don't know if you're all familiar but the first site of this kind was mp3.com. They had this thing called New Music Army where promoters could promote you and get a piece of your pay for play profits. So my music was just starting to breakout and I had this song debut at #1 on their chart which hardly ever happened so it got the attention of the top promoter on the site. He asked me to join his operation and I agreed cause it was somewhat of an honor to be chosen for the top NMA group, A day or so later he told me that he knew of a system and that's why his artists did so well, a combination of boxes to check when you're uploading the song that would flag the musicologist dept to feature you. He said he got the info from upper management. Now since I was an artist rights advocate and had a large group of artists who sort of depended on me to fight for fairness and such, I found that whole idea repulsive, that he had a cheat he was going to use to help me. I wrote him the next day and told him I was out, and the thing not due to me somehow became public in that community and became a huge, I mean huge scandal cause he was a VIP and why would that fool FT drop him? I tried to keep it to myself but everyone was all over me to find out what happened. During this time, the promoter got ultra-paranoid because he didnt want me to talk about why I dropped him cause then he might lose his trick. He threatened me publically which eventually got him banned for awhile, which made all his artists hate me. He sent me a picture of a horsehead in email to threaten me. But the thing was not being dropped, people were demanding answers, he put me in a really bad spot.
It was at this time I went to see a concert I had bought tickets to, it was Crosey Stills Nash and Young at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. Great concert, included a 20 some minute version of Down By The River with Neil and Stills dualing lead guitars, pretty amazing. Anyway I was all relaxed driving home on the AC expressway and thinking about my dillmma at mp3.com. I started to write lyrics, recorded them on a mini recorder I carried along with me everywhere. By the time I got home I had a finished song, I decided to tell what happened in the song which was very popular on the site of course cause everyone wanted to know why I dropped the guy.
Here's that song. The Unprofessional
