What do you think is the greatest earworm, the catchiest song of all time?
other than the George of the Jungle theme song, that's disqualified. :)

Whole bunch of choices here but the Stones "Satisfaction" was what came to mind first.

bp d. makes a strong case for "Satisfaction" and I could also nominate "Smoke on the Water." But we should ask Christomir since his station is "Itso's Earworms."
Idea: Once we are finished with Golden Kayak season and are in the midst of a dark, cold, lonely winter, why not have a 16 song bracket like the indie song of the year? Have a 2 week nomination period and have the musicologists pick and bracket the 16 songs. Maybe an idea whose time has come!

Stevie has so many. If You Really Love Me is real catchy.
re: your idea, will consider doing this, why not?

Toss-up between A Hundred Bottles of Beer on the Wall and Revolution #9. Or maybe the MyPillow jingle.

Scientists have worked out the components
The formula is expressed as Receptiveness + (predictability-surprise) + (melodic potency) + (rhythmic repetition x1.5) = earworm
'We will rock you' by Queen was their best example
Meanwhile, 30 mins ago I heard Part Time Lover (another from Stevie) and I can't get it out of my head.... speaking of which, Kylie Minogue's 'Can't get it out of my head' lives up to it's name.
How about the Hop on Pop song :) that gives George of the jungle a bit of competition.
The Proclaimers '500 Miles' just won in an ear worm poll
Interestingly "Who let the dogs out" sticks in people's minds but very few could tell you the rest of the song

To me - probably "Rivers of Babylon" by Boney M.
It's actually a cover, but I had never heard the original for most of my life, until recently... and it's nowhere near as catchy as Boney M.'s version.

Gotta go with "I Wanna Hold Your Hand", the Beatles.
Why? I remember like yesterday listening to the Top 30 with my sister, two years younger than I, and the Beatles were NEW, and they were around #25 or 30 the week before (that NEW), and we were both so disappointed because it was time for the Top 3, and the Beatles songs were not mentioned so far, not even in the conversation, and there THEY WERE, #1 I wanna Hold Your Hand, #2 She Loves U, #3 "Please Please Me," a Beatles sweep, by by 4 Seasons, by by Leslie gore, and the top of tops, "I Wanna Hold Yr Hand."
Everyone in school LOVED THEM,

Wow, Mr. April; like several here, you are a fellow Boomer! I was 12 years old at the beginning of 1963 and a teen when it ended. IWHYH is a great choice!
But you and I should also listen to Christomir's suggestion. After all, he is the Crown Prince Bulgarian Earworm Harvester seeing as how his groovy station is "Itso's Earworms."
Nice to finally 'meet' you and next time I build a new station (hopefully this winter after my "to-do" list subsides), I really, really, really need to start listening to your music. I have read so much about you from Scott and others.
I am very curious who the girls are in your photo. Can you tell me please, or is it an IMP secret? Thank you, sir!

"MyPillow" jingle. Ha ha that is a crack-up, Mr. Larree! I will have to listen for that as I can't bring it to mind right now.
I mentioned "Smoke on the Water" but may have to rethink that. If Scott does make this an official contest, with brackets, after the Golden Kayaks are in the books, I have another possible nomination: How about "Nationwide Is On Your Side" as sung by Payton Manning and Brad Paisley?

Thanks for that formula, Ms. Verity!
Here is another one to me that is in the same general vicinity and era of "We Will Rock You" by Queen:
How about "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" by Steam?
Start singing that and almost impossible to stop! Sung at almost every basketball game in every country at every level when an opponent fouls out of the game! Ask Itso about that too! :-)
Man alive; there are thousands upon thousands of great earworm songs!

Hi Michael,
Well, regarding music, forever young, hopefully lol!!!
The artist page pix = the Hilton sisters. When I came over to the site way back, in 2005 or so, I was doin' collabros with Steve Ison, and the twin sax players, the Hilton sisters, from the 30s, seem'd a natural. Here's a link to "The Hilton Sisters," a collabro about them. http://www.indiemusicpeople.com/songs.aspx?SongID=60650&ArtistID=104597
cheers, in music,
Steve

Psy: Gangnam Style.
Oh no, now I must quickly listen to something else to get rid of it.
Second one came to my mind: Ketchup Song.
Should probably make the most annoying playlist including all the worst earworms and play it at some party. :D
I feel a bit sorry for this answer of mine. I'm having a break from Facebook and now I'm replying to everything here instead of cleaning my house, making a photobook for my baby's grandparents, writing a book about Christmas anxiety etc. There's no cure for a social media addiction.
Remember the good old days when rockers had other addictions... Now we're all a bunch of nerds. :D

I hate when I get a bad song stuck in my head, lately for no reason at all, didn't even hear it, it's the Ray Stevens cheery version of the song Misty. Yuck.
