Nostalgia
I'm sure Bryon will show up soon to call this thread an attempt at distraction but it's something I took the time to write at another forum I post on so I thought I'd put it here, that there might be somebody interested in the topic..
Do you ever obsess on toys or other items from your childhood?
There were several items over the years that I have deep memories about that the vastness of google and the internet can bring right into your face again and it's always interesting when that happens.
Several years ago there were a couple board games from my youth which I wanted to try to find. I was really into board games in the 60s. One called Let's Take A Trip I found the first time I searched it, guess it was a popular game.
Another was a board game bought for me at Ringling Bros Circus, the game was about Emmitt Kelly the clown and a few years ago I finally found that which pleased me a lot.
There is another fortune telling game I have not been quite able to find though I've found ones very similar, this one I had a supernatural incident with, similar to the illusion a Ouiji Board provides only totally the real deal.
Today I found something I've been looking for a really long time and it was so cool to see it again. It's a 6-inch Marx toy soldier that was my favorite, the one i decided was me during all the play wars we did. I have been scouring listings of toy soldiers for years trying to find it. Anyway somebody pointed me to a facebook group called 6-inch Marx Soldiers believe it or not and within 10 minutes of my post describing this soldier, this guy posted a picture of it - incredible. It wasn't quite the same exact color but it's goin' on my desktop all the same. Best thing that happened to me for awhile.
There's one item I would actually buy if I could find it. This is my holy grail. It's the fairly large sized unusally shaped radio my dad and I listened to Baltimore Oriole games on. More importantly I listened to the round-by-round summaries of all Muhammad Ali's fights on, the 3 Frazier fights and the incredible night he took the title back from George Foreman, one of the greatest memories of my life. It's like I know that radio so well just thinking about it almost puts it right in front of me but I sure would love to touch it once again.
Would love to hear if anybody else has items like this that are brain-altering for you.

cool story of your past, and interesting but no, I have nothing from back in the day of kid dom, I know people who collect things like lego sets, build and set them up and train sets. dont have room for that type of thing house is too small./
I had a lot of matchbox toys and dinky toys when I was about 10 but they got thrown in the incinerator in the back yard by accident cause they were in a paper bag and mom threw them in it thinking it was garbage. what a mess , I was looking for them after we were told to clean our room and I put everything in a paper bag so mom could vacuum and do spring cleaning, then went outside to the backyard and the barrel and tipped it over , just a bunch of blackened burned toys. sad about that

We were poor. So no toys.
The closest we got to toys was going to Woolworths, Metropolitan and Freiman's here in Ottawa at Christmas and just look and touch.
Of course, at Christmas there was the Sears Catalog wich we studied to have material to talk and dream about.

I remember looking at catalogues like that in the same way. I remember also looking at this little booklet that showed the different teams of NFL football men you could buy for electric football. Bought a lot of them.
Sorry to hear you never got many toys Norm, reminds me of a story my mother would tell about her childhood (she had 12 sisters and brothers). She said every Christmas she got an orange, a coloring book and crayons.
Bryon the story about your cars is a sad tale and reminds me about something life changing that happened with me and my comic book collection in a blog you can read here.
My toy car memory involved Hot Wheels, I mention them in my song The Carefree Kid, in fact.

Scott, your mother would have connected with me.
In our Christmas socks. these were actually our winter socks, we got an orange also plus potatoes and carrots. The potatoes and carrots were later used for Christmas dinner.
Those were the days. Would'nt trade the memories for anything.

Hell, yeah! I've got my very first "Kindergarten Diploma" posted on my wall beside my bed. I'm lookin' at it right now! Zoar Baptist Church Kindergarten on the 20th day of May 1966... The Degree Of "Bachelor Of Rhymes". It's got Jack Be Nimble jumping over a candle stick, that cow jumping over the moon, and ten other Nursery Rhyme characters around it. I've also got my teenage artwork where I drew and colored the album covers of Kansas Leftoverture, Chicago Greatest Hits, Eagles(painted skull), Thin Lizzy Johnny The Fox, ZZ TOP green album, and Wild Cherry. Nazareth Hair Of The Dog is still here too(kinda)... I gave the dang Three Headed part to my first girlfriend. Love "nostalgia"! VERY MUCH! -M-
