What are the kinds of things that cause you to lose interest in a song, a project, a band?
A friend of mine is having an issue with a situation, just would like to hear people's thoughts on this.

A band I was in; the members were all ten years younger than me, they were politically naive and wanted to play each and every gig we were offered, I said we should be more selective about what we were doing in regards to that.
Anyway we(against my own principles) played a gig for the fucking "chamber of commerce", a right wing organization, and I totally lost interest and decided that I was going to leave the band.
At our next rehearsal I was going to announce the news, but, before I could say anything, three of the band said "I'm leaving the band"
So there was no more band to leave. But what there was left was the bad taste in my mouth, oh yes, and at that chamber of commerce gig my synth got dropped off the stage by one of the roadies and the sound output got damaged.

I lose interest in a song I’ve written if any part of it bores me or doesn’t sufficiently excite me. I don’t give up easily and can work on a song for years but at some point I ask myself if my time could be better used working on something else. Time is a valuable commodity. It should be used wisely while you have it.

Good question. I am generally very enthusiastic about any project I am involved with. If I get stuck on a song, I just go into problem-solving mode and find solutions. I may not want to record or perform a song, but I always finish them to the point where I have one or two verses, a chorus, and perhaps a pre-chorus and bridge. And regarding projects or bands, I only lose interest if one or more members or collaborators become disrespectful, or if they constantly sabotage our work.

... I will add that I am also always learning new things. I learn new cover songs all the time, and I constantly study music. I expose myself to different genres and world music. I take classes and attend workshops. I even sing in a choir where I sing in multiple languages. I performed in a choir concert last weekend where I sang in French, Italian, Latin, Spanish, Swahili, and even English, and I played kalimba for the Swahili song. So I never lose interest in the music itself.
