Identity crises and an oversized catalogue of songs
I recently came pretty close to dying twice in the last three weeks, my psyche is pretty much gone. When new people come into my life I can see the Who the fuck is this guy? all over their faces. I'm basically grasping at anything that feels righteous or makes me feel at home, have no clue who I am whatsoever. I did have a moment tonight that hit a smooth soft spot for me, got one of our band mixes back and that song oddly enough tells exactly who I am. It was a song I wrote in the 80s but it means more, applies more vividly at this very moment. I realized yet again that I've been expressing myself this way at least since 1980 in LA when I bought my first decent acoustic guitar. 45 years of laying it all out there and I've told myself it was for everyone but now I kind of know it was only for me. I cling to my songs and cling to my football team and yeah, seems I come out on the short end 99% of the time. Am I a sad individual? I don''t even care, maybe that's my problem. Even existing at all feels like a stretch. My lot is being constant like the godforsaken sun that comes up too regularly and gets in the way of my desired sinking into the abyss. I did this song back in like 2001 with a final line 'Just to think at first you thought you were changing me' Who was I kidding? I can change a sandwich by putting too much mustard or hot sauce on it, that's about my limit.

Sorry to hear about your distress, Scott. Going back to visit older songs of yours that are especially meaningful is good therapy. I do that when I’m down as I’ve always felt that my songs were like angels carrying me through life. Your songs are strong and so are you. Don’t despair!

Scott,
thank you for sharing your situation. Its so challenging going through these health issues and the drain that it has on our psyche is at times frustrating and discouraging, we all will be praying for your recovery and hope these messages will lift your spirits and give you a boost!
Richard covered it so well in his post, you have a special gift and talent in song crafting and are so prolific in your ability to compose songs with depth and meaning and certainly are an inspiration to us all.
You are an icon here, holding this special place that you have been a part of from its genesis
Thank you for everything you do in holding this IMPNATION together and maintaining its purpose.
I will keep you in my prayers and wish for the very best for a rebound in your health

I recently came across an old pocket watch an American pocket watch a Waltham from 1850,s it is still ticking away. Works fine but it is when you have a look at the gears and the little tiny parts. No computers in that days all hand drawn out of someones imagination. Ingenuity and craftsmanship was the watch word me thinks
