If you could reinvent one thing, what would it be?

I would want a mixing set up where you mix on one set of speakers and it’s an effective mix on all other speakers. A set up where you just made it sound good on those speakers and you were done. That would be so good.

I wish someone would make a nice, soft, squidgy, hand shaped mobile (cell) phone instead of these horrible slippy, hard, flat, awkward to use, easy to drop things that we all have.

I'd reinvent the concept of the wife. Women have gotten too much power in this society. A wife should exist to serve her man, in any way he requires. Like a good massage every day of the week. And no complaining about anything - EVER!

the atomic bomb.
I'd like to make it to where it'd only fizz out some sparks for a short time and then let rip with a puff of pink or blue smoke that smells like musk perfume... and then this smell would make the birds begin to sing... sounds nice anyway!

Nothing quite so profound as Mortimer, but I have reinvented soccer (or football if you wish) ( or futbol if you wish.. etc.).
At least in my mind.
1. Unlimited substitution. In high school we had this. Our coach would substitute midfield lines every five minutes. They would play flat out before getting a five minute breather. They packed in on offense, making our offense excellent. They would also fly back and help out on defense.
It bugs me to see soccer played so slowly.
2. Half court (or pitch if you will) rule. For those not familiar with basketball, essentially once the offense has gotten the ball beyond the mid court line, they lose possession if the ball recrosses the line.
3. Shot clock. Again, borrowed from basketball. This would have to be experimented with. I think one minute is enough time, but it might need more.
4. NO SHOOTOUTS!!!! Regular season games don't need this disgraceful tie breaker. After one or two overtime periods, the game can be declared a tie.
To have the World Cup decided by a shoot out is shameful. It's like the World Series being decided by a home run derby or the NBA Championship decided by a game of Horse!
Dismounting soap box now... Geez, feels good to vent.

In thinking about it, I think I know how it could work.
Just like web servers query an incoming request and tailor a web page based on device and OS, music could carry code that would adapt its presentation based on the device.
Of course, you won't get the same sound, because my phone won't give the same sound as a quality sound system, but mixing software could certainly present the optimal presentation of the original mix for a variety of devices..
Another gazillion bux for the right person.

Oh Glen, I don't think you want to re-invent soccer you just want to abolish it :)
Substitutes are made when there's a natural break in the game. 3 subs allowed (6 in national games) out of 11 that ain't bad.
Penalty 'shootouts' don't happen in regular games. When a win is needed to determine which team goes forward There'll 30 mins extra time or 'away goals score double' I hate shootouts but what else could there be, toss a coin maybe... or keep playing until every player is brought down with cramp!
I agree that the game is unfair and I'd also like to re-invent some aspects but I wouldn't want it to be as boring as the back and forth of Basketball or the stop and start of Gridiron. Think of it more as a game of chess but played at speed - mental strategy and physical skill.
By the way, I really like Psyches Muses idea and Bob's idea would be useful... but Roger Lout ?... you're definitely OUT!

I'd reinvent the US system of government, long story..
I'd reinvent mp3s and make them tactile objects that looked like 45s and vinyl albums.

The Year...
I'd like for the year to be comprised of 364 days...
13 months comprised of 28 days each(actual lunar cycles)...
Probably wouldn't need a "calendar" anymore...

Cell Phones! I would make them more reliable, durable and cheaper. IMO it is the most unpredictable technology ever. Calls get dropped in the middle of conversations. Imagine if your car acted like your cell phone and sometimes just didn't want to do what it was designed to do. Drive! You would probably get rid of that car. Yet, cell phones crash all the time and people just call back and ignore the fact that the technology is flawed. And, it is all services that do this and not just some isolated company. The damn things have always been flawed and nobody ever took the time to fix them for good. So, people just walk around looking at these tiny screens and hoping that everything there will be working for today. Fat Chance! Hello, hello, are you still there? That is a very common question for cell phone users. Sad.........
