Ok, the nominees and the ballots have arrived.
Here's a station with the songs to listen to.
Here's the ballot.
Just want to say I'm really proud of this community for how seriously folks took the process this time. I remember back in the early days of the GKs it bugged me cause everybody would just nominate their friends. This time I got a sense from pretty much every nomination email I got that folks were actively trying to bring the best songs to the contest. I'd also add that there were very few open areas where the musicology dept had to fill in slots, this ballot is like 98% directly from the emails. If 2 songs got nominated by the same act in the same category, we did pick one so they didn't have to compete with themselves.
Now we did get several emails where most of the nominated songs were not within the period specifed to be eligible. and a couple where people nominated songs with themselves on them which had to get tossed. but we're getting this whole thing down more to a science every year. btw, if I misspelled anything on the ballots, lemme know so I can fix.
It will only allow you to vote once. I ask that you listen to the songs first and don't be just checkmarking names you recognize.

Awesome list of music people.listening to the entire works right now, huge awesome qulaity songs of course and I appreciate the generosity of those who nominated me ,you are way kind ,I am beyoond words, much gratitude
my main focus here though in my own eyes is as a station manager and have been doing this listening here at IMP for almost since it started when I came on with the bluevoodoo band in 2003 or 2004 whom I promoted and was keyboardist with, not sure of exact year lost track of time. been crazy long time through seeing the hard times, tough times and good fun times ,gratitude to those who held it all together with blood sweat and tears.
Thanks again and good luck to you all

It was nice to get nominated in Best Station Master section. I really enjoy what I do on "Nothing more than feelings". I didn't get a song nominated so I was surprised to be included in Best Female, I guess I'm just a really sweet and popular person hahaha! I believe Jillianne has agreed to present with Scott this year and she's delighted to come back for that :)
Just one small word of advice....
Be sure you are ready to complete the ballot once you've opened it up because it's an 'all or nothing thing', you can only have one go at one time.
Once you've pressed SUBMIT that's it, no going back :)

Norm,
probably the most rewarding part of doing IMP and all this is when we find somebody open enough to let their lives be transformed by indie music. It is the great realm that few people even know exists, a secret that continues to surprise and never stops giving.

Thank you Scott, this was really fun! I did take my voting very seriously and voted in 24 of 26 categories. Many of my nominations did make the ballot, so I am very pleased about that. I am confident that several of my nominees will be Golden Kayak Winners! I am particularly confident for one young lady solo artist in more than one category!
I will be tough for my Best Band in that category and their one song category, as there is great competition in those. I truly appreciate being on the ballot for the Station Manager of the Year and consider that alone to be a great honor. 2017 has been one of the most awesome music years of my life, so today is another "red letter day" for me, win or not.
I voted for 3 songs I've never heard before and 2 are in categories in which I made no nominations. One of those songs is "Omaha" and not because I live in that city. It is not about my city anyway; it is about the honorable First American tribe that first settled this great land. I voted for it because I truly like it and it will be on a future station of mine.
I am going to write a Facebook Timeline post and copy/paste this comment from here to there and cite IMP again in the process.
I did not vote in 2 categories because I am not familiar enough with them and did not want to pollute the results by casting an uninformed vote.
Thanks again, Scott! Well done, my friend!

Ditto on that comment Francesca!
My predictions for you? Golden Kayaks in two song categories and for Best Female Artist. I will be surprised and disappointed if your name is not engraved on at least two Golden Kayaks and especially the latter one. You have set the bar really high for yourself for next year!
You have earned it and deserve it and I think there are enough people here that are paying attention and care.

So it's that time of year again, The famous Golden Kayak Awards come around as quickly as Christmas. I came on to register my votes and it wasn't easy. But I had to keep reminding myself what the Golden Kayaks are all about.
"THE CELEBRATION OF GREAT INDIE MUSIC"
There is no category for 'Nicest Guy' or 'Community Stalwart' It's not a popularity contest to pick the Prom King and Queen and Miss congeniality, Homecoming Jock or whatever. MUSIC IS KING @ IMP
It's hard to vote for a song you love when you're not so keen on the artist and vice versa. It's also hard not voting for yourself and your friends. My vote is secret and hopefully unbiased. If my choices win I'll be delighted. However, I always feel sad for the excellent artists who finish as runners up in a 'First past the post' contest.
And most importantly, let's not forget the artists (some truly amazing) who didn't even get nominated but quietly slipped under the IMP radar noticed only by a few discriminating Station Masters.
See you all in January.

I also have to add my appreciation and thanks to Scott. It took me two days to listen to the songs and I voted in every category. I can't imagine how long it has taken to arrange this all.
The first two hours we had so much fun listening to all the songs with my boyfriend. We were painting at the same time and remembering the last time we listened to some music from this site and were painting. He said it's fun because you never know what kind of music will play next. He said it's inspiring and I agreed. I said I can't wait the day he finally gets his own music done and to join IMP.
After two hours of listening, painting and taking notes it was so late I had to go to bed and continued the next day with new ears. Even though it was a lot of fun, I was thinking maybe there could be less categories because you'll have to be a HUGE music fan in order to listen to all of the songs with thought. I tried to ask some non-musicians to listen to but they thought over 4 hours is way too much. Although I think for me personally it's nice to have a lot of categories. I like all types of music. And I was pleased to notice those who I thought I wanted to nominate were there ( I forgot how to nominate ).
To complete this kind of a task gives a certain feeling. It's like staying up late to see people going to Oscars or something like that. It's a nice new tradition for me. I found new favorites and added them on my station. With some songs it was a hard decision which one to vote. Alternative category had so many good songs I wanted to vote for them all.
Anyways, good luck to everyone and no matter of winning or losing it's nice to be a part of this. It's all about music like said.

I know I'm not here too often but now I came here to express my deepest appreciation for the nominations. Even a song that I wasn't expected to be nominated got nominated, so that's a pleasant surprise haha. Thank you for the recognition and appreciation I've been receiving on this website, it's truly an honor to be among such great artists! <3

Hi Monicka! Nice to see you here! My participation here is kind of hit and miss lately as well. Are you talking about "The Childhood's Not Gone" in the Miscellaneous category? I LOVE that composition and I sure hope you get a GK for it!
So how is everything going for you? I watched your talking monolog on YouTube and really enjoyed it. I love news and connection from my fatherland. You do look a little bit like one of my sisters and it is easy for me to see and hear you are Polish. BTW, my buddy Christomir from Bulgaria and I think the Slavic women are the most beautiful on earth. Of course, we may be a tad biased, lol! (Oops, since I am speaking with the author of "21st Century" I hope that does not offend. I am probably your grandpa's age!) :-)
I got my Ancestry DNA kit results and no surprises on my dad's side; from the Triba (Tryba) and Czapla grandparents = 44% Eastern Europe aka Poland. Is there a town called Pilsnow? I think I recollect my dad talking about it. Huge surprises on my mom's side though! I always thought I was 25% Swedish, but not so. I'm 32% British and ZERO Swede, but some Western European and less of Norwegian and Russian. Apparently some of my ancestors moved to Sweden.
Were both your parents and all your grandparents all born in Poland? Do you think you will always live there? If not, where else would you want to live, or at least visit?
Dzien Dobry, Michael
