Congrats Richard! I only knew one answer sort of - and couldn't really think of the title "That's The Way I Always Heard it Should Be" which by the way is about the most depressing song ever written in my opinion. Bring on the next Quiz!

"You're So Vain" is a pretty angry and depressing song too. Carly Simon was not a happy camper. She had too many clouds in her coffee!

I liked her songs. guess I am more of a fan then some here, just thought she was a good songcrafter and performer, its her birthday today, she is 70. I think she is one of America's best and an Icon in my eyes , she had a lot of top 40 hits. People related to her songs at the time, maybe not now, times change. and she could play a pretty good piano and sing and the same time. : )

I agree, she's one of best female artists ever.

it's all subjective of course - that's the whole idea of a favorite artist or song -even at the time they were popular, I never could get into her or Carol King either - even though Carol King really could play piano. I thought Carly was really mediocre on the keys

I hear ya Dolores, I think as a player, performer and sometimes a singer, but not often iI would play less and support the song not get in the way of the lyrics, , the singing end of it, do arrangements, work the song parts the made everything in balance. whether my own or accompanying others. I was often complimented on how I played when supporting others on a live performance. and or in recording. just doing enough, with tasty piano morsels and not getting in the way of those singing : ) But when needed, or when I felt like it, I could also lay down the big chops if i had to.
but yah, it depends on your affinity to certain artists. likes dislikes or digging someones style or vibe , depends how it hits ya.

Speaking of female artists in the folk rock and blues vain, I've always liked Joni Mitchell, Rita Coolidge, Lucinda Williams, Janis Joplin, Patty Smith, Bonnie Bramlett, Phoebe Snow and others. But those are the first that came to mind. Those names bring back some great memories.

Definitely on the list above - all those people. I think that Joni Mitchell is about my favorite guitar player of all time - Bonnie Raitt too and I thing Laura Nyro was a brilliant song writer.
