Immed. got the SGT PEPPER ALBUM ,still have it,.i think they , the beatles changed the whole record industry with that release and the way other musicians looked at doing songs and albums, power group, super group as far as I am concerned, , so thought provoking songs, , what a time, hanging out on our own haight ashbury area area 4th ave in Van. all the beaches all summer, doing nothing much but going to concerts, hanging with friends , parties . SGT PEPPER was an experience so was Jimi Hendrix I dont think there was anytime like it that year. they the beatles blew everyone away with the album.what a huge influence, on society, me , man the songs, not one dud .i got to go, in the midst of promo for the Conscious Rednecks. cheers ,no time for much of this,

1) The Beatles on Ed Sullivan
2) Dylan going electric at the Newport Folk Festival & his influence on the Beatles
3) Nirvanna Unplugged on MTV
4) The song "Light My Fire" and the Doors albums in general (I bought a Vox organ with the reverse black and white keys and learned the whole organ solo note for note. Learned the guitar part as well. The song and that band was a game changer for me.
5) Seeing Jimi Hendrix jam with the Electric Flag at the Filmore East in NYC
Seeing Hendrix at Electric LadyLand Studios in NYC.
6) 60's Rock TV show: Shindig and especially the appearance of the Righteous Brothers singing You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'
7) The first time Neil Young played with CS & N at the Filmore East in NYC (and he joined the band thereafter)
8) Mick Jagger singing Like A Rolling Stone with Bob Dylan at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
9) George, Ringo and Paul recording tracks with a cassette tape of Jon Lennon's Free As A Bird and Real Love and the subsequent videos that were on TV.
I cried. The whole project was an amazing feat. Jeff Lyne is a genius producer.
10) Seeing Stevie Wonder sing Finger Tips and play harmonica at The Murray the K show in the Fox theatre in Brooklyn NY and the rest of the entire Motown Review.

These things are not quite in order of importance and there are other great moments for me but these are the ones that jumped into my head at first.

a lot of good moments there. Did you actually see Hendrix live?

Your post reminded me of my favorite ever concert moment, which was seeing CSNY on their Y2K tour, Crosby's voice sounding strong as it ever did, singing Almost Cut My Hair.

I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, and I suppose the musical moment that made the biggest difference to me was my sister giving me her 45 of I Wanna Hold Your Hand and I Saw Her Standing There after she bought the album.

Yeah, I saw Hendrix several times, once when he jammed with the Electric Flag, two more times at the Filmore East, once at the Cafe Wha, once at Electric Ladyland Studios as a guest and once at Lincoln Center. (One of the times was when he was with The Band Of Gypsies. Buddy Miles was the drummer for that band and was also the drummer for Electric Flag. I was shopping songs for Buddy Miles at the time. hence the access to Hendrix.

Some other great moments I've had: Simon and Garfunkel at Central Park, Richie Havens at the Newport Folk Festival, James Brown at the Apollo, Being at a live show of the Animals on Ed Sullivan, Janis Joplin at the Filmore East, John Lennon jamming with Elton John At Madison Square Garden, solo performances of Paul, George, and RIngo solo shows at the Garden in NYC, The Grateful Dead and the Who (same bill!) at the Oakland Coliseum in California, The Who did the whole Tommy rock opera. Bruce Springsteen at the Garden, Every Rolling Stones concert ever performed in NYC since 1965. (When Brian Jones was in the band.)
Yeah, I'm that old, but rock keeps me young.

This reminds me of a story I heard, I forget if I told it or one of my friends, nonetheless it is the truth. :)

This guy I know had this lucid dream about seeing Hendrix, happened in the 90s but of course then Jimi was long dead. Anyway it was like real. Concert in a gymnasium. I had an email exchange with this Hendrix expert and he said Jimi did play in several college gyms.

I sorta believe in this sort of metaphysical thing. Maybe the aliens beam holographs into our brains.

Wait a minute now. A big moment i left out, What am I thinking here. I should have included the time when I was a sideman for one show in Vancouver about 7 8 years ago playing piano for Bo Diddley, with me that day was my Bro Ted on Bass and Rick Dalgarno ,guitar from the blue voodoo , quite an experience with the innovator

1. 1973 Herbie Hancock released Head Hunters. ( I practiced every song on that album until I could play every instruments part) It became my auditioning album for a variety of instruments.

2. 1975 I saw Earth Wind & Fire in Honolulu Hawaii. One of my shipmates from Vietnam had stage passes (he grew up with Maurice white) and I got to go back stage and meet Maurice White and Phillip Bailey. Hand's down the best concert I have ever witnessed in my life (and I have seen thousands).

3. The song We Are The world (because so many of my favorite artists were on it).

4. The Beatles on Ed Sullivan (not a big event in my community at the time but definitely a huge event from a musically historical perspective). I saw it though and prayed that someday I would be able to make girls scream the way they did.

5. Woodstock Movie (I saw Jimi Hendrix play many times when I toured on the "chitlin circuit". Back then he played with the "Isley Brothers" but Woodstock made him a household name and a Rock & Roll god).

6. American Idol TV show (only because I never saw Nirvana unplugged on MTV and don't know any of their music).

I'll just put my list in order - I'm in total awe of the experiences you guys have had performing and going to performances ... I love Billy Bob Thornton - maybe Bryon is a handsomer version haha

1. the release of any of the cds by Raul Ramirez and his Ecomusica
2. Massive Attack and Thievery Corporation live in Boston. Sitting in the balcony of an old theatre and it started to vibrate (literally) with the Thievery Corporation percussion and bass - so beautiful
3.Nirvana unplugged on MTV. They were way more intense just sitting still and playing than when they were jumping around and screaming and trying to be intense
4.Woodstock movie - Hendrix and didn't Crosby Stills and Nash debut Suite Judy Blue Eyes at Woodstock?
5.We Are The World - till it got sooooo very over played - but that was the point, I know to raise money and awareness
Beatles on Ed Sullivan and American Idol are tied for bottom of the list. Not a Beatles fan (even though I know it was a landmark Ed Sullivan thing) and I can't be in the same room with American Idol - even though I appreciate the really talented artists after they're done being on the show

Quizmo is the best - great posts!

1) Nirvana unplugged on MTV
2) Pet Sounds - Brian has dog ears.
3) Honest Engine Live at Davis County Fairgrounds '95 - Local band who's guitar sound while performing a song titled 'shoot out the light' blew my fucking mind and humbled me a dozen pegs while raising the bar for performance and sound quality.
4) Beatles on Ed Sullivan Show - I could care less really, but it influenced my path more than we are the world, so,..
5) the song We Are The World - QJ is the boss, and this production is a testament to his authority and ability to lead, but his biggest influence on me was via Off the Wall and Thriller.
6) Woodstock movie - I watched it, ehh
7) American Idol TV show - this should be above the woodstock movie because Simon is my hero, but he left the show so, yeah.

fyi, y'all are making me feel like a youngster and I am a grandpa twice, WTF?

Hey Bryon ~You're much better looking than Billy Bob Thorton but I think I was relating mostly to his and your gravitas, rural vibe and bad-ass charisma! (and there are some similar physical characteristics as well) Since he was married to one of the most beautiful women in the world, any comparison to him is a compliment :-)

BTW ~My wife and I just saw Love and Mercy, a movie about Brian Wilson. It was so moving.
Paul McCartney said he thought Brian's song "God Only Knows" was the greatest song ever written.
The flick is a must-see for music fans. It's very sad at times but it shows the journey of a true genius
and his quest for musical perfection in writing and producing in the studio. He is definitely one of my idols.I agree with Noah about Pet Sounds.

Another musical milestone: Seeing Michael Jackson do the "moon walk" for the very first time on TV.
It was electrifying!! I watched it with a bunch of friends and we all yelled "WOW!!! at the same time when he did it. The film doc of his rehearsal for his last concert "This Is It" is another great moment in music history. We've watched it several times and it never gets boring. The man invented dancing as we know it and was truly one of a kind as a songwriter, singer, producer and all around performer.

sorry to go away from the original question and not ranking the list, but here are my thoughts and the shows which changed my life:

1) Fleetwood Mac 2015 "I am so afraid" is my all-time favorite guitar solo)
2) Mark Knopfler 1992 (Jesus..."Sultans of Swing"
3) The Police 1982 (Bring on the Night)
4) Rory Gallagher 1977 (Rory came back on stage 8 times...)
5) U2 1993 (3 days in a row)
6) Eric Clapton 1992
7) Pink Floyd 1995
8) Bo Didley 1994 (I believe he played in Many's Car wash)
9) Genesis 1982
10) J Geils Band and the Rolling Stones in Cologne 1982
11) Genesis 1982
12) Crosby, Stills, Nash (making it with a bike on the highway to Essen)
13) My own band + Many more.

But...

I was not alive yet for the Ed Sullivan show, but listened to the Beatles on average 4 hours per day from the age of 6 to 14, tried to learn guitar because of George (I was trying so hard that I was getting angry and biting in my guitar's neck because my fingers were to short ....when I was 6 because I wanted to learn guitar because of George). My parents had about 500 singles with (very lame) German (jodel?) music and I went through all them only to find a single of "She Loves You" (Back side "Can't Buy me Love")..That changed my life.

Although I think it's time for some new sounds (it's 45 years now since Paul. John, George and Ringo split) I would believe the Beatles are the best miracle at least from my perspective.

I would have loved to see Michael Hedges as well.. well let's jam in heaven some day, God bless

EM
