#5 Pete Townshend , there are a lot of well known and famous artist here quite a number. the only one that i felt possible would be Pete, i think it could be him.

Dylan toured with the Dead. They were great. Saw them in Anaheim.
I think it was Santana who was turned down.
Edit: Just did some research. The Dylan/Dead tour was in 1987 and they released the live album in 1989.
I do remember Hearing that Carlos Santana did try to join the band after Jerry died but was turned down.

Yes, it was after and during when Dylan toured with the Dead that he asked to join them, but apparently Phil Lesh voted no.
Any guesses on #3?
