Without You was indeed the right answer.
I'll answer the Rod Stewart one. It was You're In My Heart. Check out the lyrics, you'll see that it was slyly about Rod's love for soccer or football as they call it over there.

1, would that be "Mama Told Me Not To Come"?
What's his name, Randy Newman or something?
2.comin' up blank...
3. I'm gonna guess Brian Wilson?
4. More well known as who? Comin' up blank.
5.No idea.
6.This one you misspelled. There is no hit from the 70s
called "Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanter"...
There is however a hit from the 70s,
"Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted" by The Partridge Family...
7.This one is too easy, "Without You" by Harry Nilsson
or however he spells it, is a Badfinger tune, Harry did it much better.
The Badfinger version, much as they were a great band
that had some great records, fell flat on it's uninspired face.
8. I'm gonna say Marianne Faithful, who was for a time Jagger's girlfriend,
who also covered a Stone's song 'As Tears Go By',
and did in fact perform on their 1969 film, "Rock N Roll Circus",
(which John Lennon also performed on, ordered by Jagger
to play "Yer Blues".... you suck balls for ordering John what to play, Mick.
Just thought I'd let you know, Stringbean.
9. Okay I would have guessed a hoagie, so I'm glad someone got it right.
10. I don't watch all that much prime time shows, so no idea.
What was the connection between The BEATLES
and Peter and Gordon,
Jane Asher, sister to one of the duo,
whom Paul McCartney dated until around 1966.
How did John Lennon react,
when Pete Shotton told John he did not
want to play in The Quarrymen anymore?
I'll be impressed if ANYBODY knows That One.

So nobody knows the answer to the one I asked, and thank you by the way,
about Pete Shotton when he wanted to leave the Quarrymen?
He told John he'd had enough of the band,
what was John's response?
Anyone?
I'm being a stickler, since, I really don't know if this ever made
it out to the public biography of The Beatles.
Pete was in me house when he told me.
Obviously, I know the answer to this one.

Here's some more Beatle Trivia,
which may not be very well known.
The "HEY!" in You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, was in fact
Pete Shotton's idea....
John was just singing it softly,
and Pete said, "why not shout it? HEY!" ...John agreed that sounded
better, so that's what he did.
Also,
when The Beatles had finished making "The White Album"
(Officially the album called simply "The BEATLES")
after hearing all the songs, Pete said to George,
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is the best song on the album!
Paul in particular took this news quite hard,
saying to Pete, 'how could you?'
George was so grateful, he tried to give Pete his Mazerati.
Pete politely declined, although when he told me this story
about ten years ago, he admitted to us he wished he'd taken it in retrospect...
Pete also said, George's response to Pete when he refused George's car,
was this:
"Pete, when you refuse a gift, you rob someone of the joy of giving".
Anyone guess the question remaining? 'bout Pete when
he wanted to leave The Quarrymen?
Any guesses even?
What was John's response to Pete?

I only mentioned that because I thought it was the more correct answer. You had said you were thinking of another song. I thought the full title was the other song. What was the other song you were thinking of? This was a hard quiz!
Do they still use the O'Jay's song for Apprentice? I heard the O'Jays sent a cease and desist letter disallowing the song for use on Apprentice but I haven't watched the show in a long time.

I never watched Apprentice, only even knew that thru commercials.
The one I was thinking of was Fire by the Ohio Players which is the theme song for Hell's Kitchen.

No one even hazarding a guess.
Very well then, I will just simply tell you.
When Pete Shotton decided he'd had enough
of being in The Quarrymen,
he told John he didn't wanna do it anymore,
he wanted out of the group.... Pete had been with John since the beginning,
and the instrument Pete played, was washboard,
yes, a literal washboard, it played big in the skiffle sound
popular in England at that time, and it was used
as a percussion instrument, played by your hand
that had thimbles on the thumb and fingers,
so that it made a rhythmic 'racka-racka' sort of sound...
that was what Pete played....
so when Pete told John he wanted out of the group,
John took Pete's washboard,
and promptly broke it over his head.
"Okay you're out of the group" said Lennon
So now you know, so now you know...

Speaking of Three Dog Night,
another hit of theirs, "One"....
who wrote that? Harry Nilsson? Why do I think he wrote that?
It sounds like Harry....

Here's one....
obviously Quizmo is old enough to maybe know this....
Who sang the 1970 hit
"(Oh Babe) What Would You Say?"
and what was this person's connection to the music biz before this hit?
Actually a pretty nice song. Even if the person had a somewhat unlikely voice.

of course, in this Google age,
most of us have the Encyclopedia Everything in our house via the internet....
so I would almost have to ask questions nobody knows the answer to,
and I just tried that,
no one bit.
Not one bit.
Not even a guess or a nibble at a guess,
and if you're throwing a party, don't nibble at your guests.
And watch where you're throwing that thing, there are people standing there.
"Honk" said Harpo.
I actually like that song quite a bit....
it's so old timey, very romantic....
maybe I should cover that one.....
may as well, no one else in the world is about to, of that I'm pretty sure.

Hurricane Smith, I had the 45. :)
yes Nilsson wrote One.

The solo act, most of his family are also well known.

what's the answer to Question 2?
No idea.
Not if my life depended on it.
And yes, Hurricane Smith,
and his other thing of note to his name,
maybe a different name, I don't know,
was he was an engineer for The Beatles,
like, Abbey Road or something....

The song is Hurt, done originally by IMP act Nine Inch Nails and covered famously by IMP artist Johnny Cash.
