1) In my opinion, Bob Dylan did the definitive version of this song but the Byrds did a great version which is sometimes regarded as the birth of folk rock.
5) Even the author of this song (Bob Dylan) wrote in a letter that Jimi Hendrix did the the best cover version of All Along The Watchtower. In general, Dylan disliked all covers of his songs except this one. He loved it. I saw the actual letter in a museum.
2) Tina Turner did a great version of this song and basically made it her own but Creedence
Clearwater Revival did justice to the song as well. The versions are obviously very different stylistically but the sheer soul power of Tina’s version and her stage performance is very persuasive.
3) I prefer Marvin Gaye’s version of this song but Gladys Knight and the Pips did a great version too.
I don’t want to hog the list, so I’ll step aside for the other songs.

I agree with all your opinions except i'd take the Byrds version of Tambourine Man which to me is magical.

I will say that although Jimi Hendrix has the best studio version of All Along the Watchtower, Dead & Company does a damned good job when they perform it live. John Mayer plays every Hendrix riff forward, backward, inside out, and upside down!

I know this song is not on the list, but it is one of my favorite Bob Dylan covers.

I got in a big hassle on a music forum one time for insisting that the Bangles version of Hazy Shade of Winter is waaay better than Simon and Garfunkel's original.
Live and Let Die was done best by Paul and Wings. Also, best live song I've ever seen in my life, but that was due to the pyrotechnics.
Yvonne Elliman, one of my favorite lady vocalists, did the best version of I Don't Know How To Love Him - far better than Helen Reddy's.
Roberta Flack's Killing Me Softly was never beat.
Lucy In The Sky - well I say Elton.

My favorite "Watchtower" is Dave Mason's. Many differing opinions but I don't know anyone who is fan of Dylan's version.
