Grace Slick had a baby with artist Paul Kantner but they were never married. Her 2 actual husbands were not music folks.

I don't think McVie quite qualifies as a front person. She was one of 3.

well while You Can't Hurry Love by Phil C. was #1 in the UK it only reached #10 in the states but that was a really good guess.

#2 Locomotion by Carole King?
Little Eva (great version) and some 70's band (pedestrian version).

PS: I found a Great Society LP at the free table of our dump. I have nothing to play it on.

well Cher is technically correct Larree but I have to rule out the answer on a technicality because she was part of the band in question. There's a better answer.

Carole King is correct, the 70s band is Grand Funk Railroad, 2 very different versions of Locomotion.

Lulu was a solo artist, not a front person for a band, and I have no idea who she was married to. :)

so we're down to 3, 7, and 9. I thought 7 would be fairly easy. 9 is relatively obscure.

#3 I was going to go with Chrissie Hynde, but I don't think she married Ray Davies.
Then I thought maybe Edie Brickell, but S&G weren't really a band, so I'm out - this is way deeper than I ever get. And usually Richard has trashed us all in the first 10 minutes.
#7 Janis?

Ah, Lars, I'm going to have to null out #2. I thought Hynde did marry Ray Davies, but it turns out Hynde and Davies planned to wed in Guildford, but "the guy in the registry office took one look at us and suggested we come back another time".
Janis is correct for #7. Peggy Caserta released a book about their affair called Going Down With Janis. Your humble Quizmo owns that paperback by the way.
#9 is Nicolette Larson who had a top ten hit with Neil Young's Lotta Love.

#3. Yoko!
It has to be Yoko. She was married to a singer/songwriter from one of the most popular bands in the 60s and went on to have a solo career. Boom. Yoko.

She wasn't frontwoman for a band. Anyway even my answer was wrong so the question was declared null and void.
