Doesn't Devo Have a IMP Page?
What are his visiting hours.
What's the question anyway?
I'm curious now.
Curiosity hits me sometimes just like lightning.
And as you can see (See Diagram) I'm no stranger to that.

Stay out of this, he requested me, not some guy who would post his artist pic claiming it as your own.
What's up Russ, how can I help you?

Shrink, here's the issue. I've got this artist friend who, while they're a pretty good artist, they think they're a musical god, it gets tedious. How do I get them to chill a little?

Confidence helps artists to soar, I'm not sure you'd want to do that. I take it this affects the artist's day-to-day personality?

no, crush them, tell the truth, lay it on thick, enough of this buttering them up, white washing them that is BS and does not help them one iota I just did that and reamed one out a few days ago, brought them to tears. These musical lollipops need tough love not candy ass compliments, bring them down a notch or two. especially the musical god ones, a swift kick to the ass to wake them up that they are not the only ones who can write play and record a song....

Yes, that's it, Shrink. I don't mind them being confident about their music, it's just that this confidence carries over into everything.

Crush them, Bryon? That's pretty harsh, why do you feel the need to do that?

Wake them up IMP Shrink, that they are not as great as they think, i got sick of listening to the greatness think, they are the God of music, no one is as good as them or writes songs like them, I told them you are not the only G D songcrafter in teh world, you songs are good, some of them but there are artists who are as good or better in the songwriting aspect. i just got fed up and told them to prove it and said to quit being so high and mighty because in a world of music, and there are an ocean of artists, there are always going to be people far more skilled them you or I or them
Maybe it will humble them, i said as well show some bloody humility , you want people to revere you, adulate you, that is the whole wrong approach, no IMP man I have done this before to arrogant condescending kings of music (in their head) and sometimes it has really helped them grasp the reality and the music biz and their own musical mortality. In fact i just wont promote people like that , these big pig headed arrogant ones who think they are Gods gift to the music writing world.
yeah Crush them, put them down a notch, and tell them how it is, a few hard knocks from someone does wonders, and the proof is in the pudding buddy IMPer show me. are you really that good, for the most part I do things with respect and consideration, and concern, but i dont like people who come to me thinking they are shit hot, when in fact, they are not. Get into the ring of the fight in this music biz and take a few shots, does wonders
And IMP SHRINK dont be such a wuss and pussy

I would rather listen to the music of someone who is good and knows it than someone who isn't and doesn't. That said there are surely plenty out there who pump themselves up beyond all recognition.
Bryon I think you might have issues with the field of psychology/psychiatry.

Yeah, I'm with Bryon on this one. Put the fucker in his place. When I use to box, every now and then the coach would bring in a guy that was way above my level to spar with. Later, while laying down with sore ribs and a big fat busted up lip he would come in and remind me that just because I had an undefeated record, it didn't mean that I couldn't get my ass kicked.
I always felt like the best lessons in life are the failures. Being told I wasn't as good as I thought I was in music by a host of real music pros made me elevate my playing and writing level by practicing and working harder at it. I also learned that nice people get a lot more positive reactions than egotistical assholes. I try to stay confident but humble. I know I am not the best. But I also know that I am good at what I do. I teach my students the same thing. I tell them that they are really good but there are tons of people out there that are better. Then I tell them to get back to work because getting better is the result of hard work and sacrifice. Also, to always remember to be humble in nature but a beast on the stage.

No. Imp shrink dude. I was reading the Russ blogs and saw Stoneman agreed with me on those few pig headed egotistical arrogant musicians who think they are the shit, when in fact they are not. It is good to be confident, but not an a-hole. then again,
here is to Stoneman , the knowledge network right here at IMP

In my experience anyone bragging about how fabulous they are might just as well wear a sign that says "I'm not that great" because the people that I've met that are brilliant musicians never have an attitude.
