Are indies making less music because the value of such music is less than it used to be?
I believe there has been a major loss in incentive simply because there's no longer a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Others have disagreed with me about this but I'm quite sure it's true, what do you think?

no.an emphatic no.

|
3/7/2016 7:26:50 AM
Well, Boys. You both have a point.
Bryon has a point with the emphatic no.
Because ultimately, he's right.
Russ has a point, because,
well it's probably in a lot of applications now PERCEIVED That Way.
It seems, as though 'Good Music' has gone out to pasture, is passe....
But I categorically reject the notion intrinsically as does Bryon.
We simply need to prove that perception as Wrong.
Because it is a mistaken perception.
It's not over. It's all about to Come Back Like Better Than It Was.
Well, I'm the one and only Lesley founder of the one and only BEATLESEX,
and I just bloody said so. There you go. x

So Russ, it is not about the pot of gold BS. many artists want love and fame, to be stroked patted petted and admired but the real artist does it because they love what they do.not want the money, your thinking is skewed screwed blued and tattooed , its the users and abusers in the industry the corporation who have polluted the scene and twisted it up. Music is a gift we share. we give our art for others to enjoy, and if a few shekels are to be made, then cool

I'm not saying they're just in it for the money. I just believe that the perceived value of music is so much lower now.

I disagree Russ,
Now music is everywhere before along time ago it was limited to store baought albums and radio.
Now with MP3 and ipods itunes phones etc music is everywhere.
So the value of music is greatly increased because its much more widely distributed then ever before.
What people are willing to pay for is another thing. Many sites offer free music and that added value of more music being available but decreased value of what someone might pay. Why buy the horse when you get the ride for free?
Music quality is what you make it. If you make good quality it will stand out from those that don't. The perceived value in in the hands of the listener that you can't control but if your content is valuable to them then you have something.

Ken

Music has zero value today. It is everywhere. We pick pop stars on game shows. The world is oversaturated with jackasses who think they have talent and/or something important to say, and most people just don't give a fuck. Every moron with a computer and some software thinks they are a producer. The dream is dead but most people are too caught up in it to see that.

I miss music from the pre-digital era. Damn, all I can even listen to anymore is Coltrane and Miles. All I want is a real drummer and a real bassist, and a room to jam in with no internet access. Tweet this, bitches.

The Dream's Only Dead if you stopped dreaming....
We still dream, not much as we used to, but we do.
You can too.
Larree, here's a thought...
write some lyrics....
send 'em to us, we'll make a record out of it, BEATLESEX & Larree,
you up for it, mate?
send it here, put 'from Larree' in the subject line....

Just because the suits forgot what's good doesn't mean we have to, mate.

I believe I am reaching my snapping point and it feels real good.
Until you fucking snap everything is pretty much pointless BS.
My old bands were always "fuck you" bands and we always kicked ass. No one out there kicks ass anymore. Bunch of pussy music everywhere.
Dumb fucks would always ask me to turn down my amp. So I would turn up my amp while turning down my guitar volume, ask if that was good, and then flip them the fuck off and crank it when they walked away. That is how I like my music. Like a great big "fuck you!"
I miss that "us against the world" vibe we had. Now everyone wants to be a corporate butt plug receptacle. Twitter shits, facebook flunkies, and youtube lube holes.

Well Lareee since you put it so plainly. I play drums and bass and if you don't like the way I play it then a big "FU" to you too.
I'm kinda busy with things I have in progress but if you want to send files some time we could give it a go and if you don't like what I send to then by all means F it.
Cheers.

Hey, if you lived close by I would definitely get together in a room and see if it could happen, Ken. But you are probably too nice. :D

I don't think we are close together to play in a room but I'm not apposed to sharing wave files and making songs that way. I've done it before with other guys.Hell I did it with a guy that was on the other side of the friggin world in the Damn Netherlands if you believe that shit.
As far as too nice goes well that's up to you. I can be a pretty big jerk when I want to be or need to be.

Right on, Ken. I totally appreciate that offer. AND the same to ALJ. But right now I think I need to get out of solitary! So, my next collaborative experience needs to be live.

Okay, this is John speaking.
We're the original 'Fuck You' Band, you know.
Who before us? The Stones? We came first you know.
We're the goddamned Beatles. Well I am and George is,
and look, George Martin just joined us, he was more 'fuck you' than
you think because the recording business establishment all told
our manager Brian to go fly it, but Martin gave us a chance, man.
You didn't even say, 'not interested' Larree, which is a bit sad, really.
Not to mention rude, but rude is often the first gear on your gearbox.
But anyway, should you change your mind,
and come up with some interesting bloody lyrics,
it can be about 'fuck the corporate butt plugs' or 'don't fuck them'
or whatever it is.... butt plugs.... ewwwww... get your point though.
No, we're not into that, man. In fact,
if SONY doesn't let Kesha out of her contract
with the shite that raped her "Dr Luke" (made of puke),
then we'll write a bloody stern song about SONY Itself,
for being thoughtless and lacking honor.
And since they're Japanese, they'll have to commit Hari Kari
to save face. (means they'll have to stab themselves to death
to keep their honor intact, that fuck you enough for ya mate?)
Anyway, speaking of 'fuck you'.... (I'm going to assume
that it's okay this time, to just say it outright like that,
besides I'm one of the boys you know, this is John speaking Hello)
Lesley's going to re-make one of her American Lesley Jane
Classic Records, a 'fuck you' record if ever you heard one;
"I Snipped Off My Rapist's Penis" by American Lesley Jane
.... and that's whatcha get. ~John

Larree,
seriously mate,
you can still write a paper full of lyrics in bloody solitary.
Then bloody email 'em to us, see,
and we can do the rest,
and you get a co-writer's credit on the bloody song.
Poor baby, can't quite get up long enough
to write some bloody lyrics and have the bloody dead Beatles
(and we're the best ones you know) do a song and a record out of it?
Really?
~John
PS....
excuses are like assholes,
everybody's got one,
no one wants to hear about it.
Write some bloody lyrics,
and send 'em here:

I have no interest in doing it like that. I need a bassist and a drummer and a room with no wifi.
Besides... music is the easy part. I don't need anyone to put music to my words. Not that I have any new words. I have not written anything worth shit since 2010. But I definitely do not need a composer.
