Hit and Run site?
It annoys me when new artists dump a whole bunch of uploads on this site as if they're using it as a repository at no cost and with no commitment. Often these are unremarkable songs that only a Mother could love. Don't newcomers realize there is no incentive for anyone to play them when they can't even be bothered to introduce themselves or write out their lyrics.
My Station is all about lyrics that challenge the banal so I always check the song/artist page first and so many are completely blank
Sure it's good to see new faces but it seems we see a load of backsides too. I hope IMP doesn't get a reputation as a 'Hit and Run' site! Just because you call yourself independent doesn't mean you have to be antisocial.
And while I'm in a critical mood, just because you're not signed to a label doesn't mean you have to imitate (even sink to the level of in some cases) artists that are already popular.....
Just my opinion

Indeed I concur with your concerns IMPoster, but its Nothing new, been going on for years here and every motherload of music sites for years.
There are a hardcore bunch here who care about IMP and the old once upon a time iacmusic. We do the best we can. and provide what we can when we can. We give and try to provide an example of our own happenings and comment about the artists who do come here.
This is the way of most human beings anyways. they say and or think Whats in it for me.
cheers bryon

This is sadly true bryon, but now that the old song upload limit has gone some artists are taking advantage and it's literally a 'free for all'
Lifting the restriction was a generous move by the new admin but it begs the question "How can this place survive without regular income?" If 'Donations' are the answer then artists who donate should be rewarded, not some 'Fly-by'Night' characters hoping for sales ; we all know that ain't happening here!
People buying subscriptions used to keep this site afloat and I'm happy these people can now show us more of what they got without paying. However it seems to have opened the floodgates in a way that's not particularly helping IMP.
I don't know if server costs are higher when a site is bulging with excessive megs? If so why should a financially strapped but well meaning and philanthropic site be crushed under the weight of the litter lying around?

There's a contribution button in the middle bottom of artist area dashboard.
The reason the song limit was lifted was simply because most of the other sites allow a lot of songs, the fact that we only used to allow 2 songs probably cost us because most online artists inhabit sites where they can participate for free.
I'd add that this kind of issue more belongs in support forum than on pipeline.

that wasn't intended for you Bryon, you didn't bring it up. I didn't mind the IMP poet bringing it up either, I just pictured others starting to post their site criticisms here so it seemed like something I should point out.

Valid points for sure. Drive by artists seem to be more interested in getting as many musicians sites under their belt as possible and have no desire to actually join and participate with the artist community. They choose quantity over quality. There also those who just swing by to announce their new CD, single or video. Then, they are gone and probably won't return until the next big promo they have. This is a part of the music business that we just have to endure and in most cases ignore.
At any rate, I also followed the lead here and donated a little bit to the site. Hopefully it will help!
Much Respect, Stoneman

I have no money offer, only loyalty.
Not that it matters much, but this is the only site that hosts more than one of my songs (outside of youtube).
The shameless self promotion schtick has always rubbed me wrong.
You need to have some skin in the game.

It was not my place to mention
And never my intention
To point fingers at the nice guys on the site
In truth I'm not employed
Just a nerdy paranoid
And to poke the conscientious isn't right
Please don't think I'm on commission
Neither do I have a mission
To rally troops and twist the arms of saints
I am just a listener geek
Who enjoys the chance to speak
Writing poetry to sweeten my complaints
Sure, the money settles bills
Buys some web space (without frills)
But it ain't the only way to pay, indeed
Dedication, loyalty,
Giving of your time for free
Those are assets that I'm sure the owners need
I say "owners" but I fear
No such animal lives here
For you cannot own the fruit of indie minds
My real beef was infiltrators
Who I'd class as second raters
Asking favors as they sit on their behinds
I've no vested interest
My support won't stand the test
I just come and go like flower hopping hummer
So the cynical may sigh
But no Tub-thumper am I
In fact I think I'd sooner thump a drummer (jk)
Now I'm feeling pretty shamed
Here I am, not seen or named
Soliciting like some demented Pimp
I will remedy this failing
Here's my coffin, tap the nail in
For I never gave a single dime to IMP
PS
If your conscience feels a prick
Take the carrot not the stick
Help your friends to stay afloat and free of debt
Every dollar that you give
Helps to reinforce the sieve
So the indies don't slip through that final net

Hmm, I'm just after renewing my subs, and now find out that the song limit has been lifted...
No gripes, just self annoyed at my own ignorance,
At least it feels like I'm contributing in my own little way.
Well, now I know what to do next year, hit the donate button instead of the upgrade button...
Great posts by the way IMPoster, :)

well you can only have one station with a basic membership so most sitizens probably would prefer the upgrade anyway.

Thanks so much for the complements. Poem/lyric writing is my first great love, hopefully I can turn some of these into songs (or raps at least) one day..... but there's so much more to write about in this crazy world.
