The truth is money doesn't reflect record sales these days, touring, guest appearances, books, endorsements, commercials, sideline businesses, judging, acting etc is the way to go now.
When you can earn $1 million a night on a tour, singing a majority of old songs, what's the incentive to write new stuff?

1. Yes, I have seen one of the above. Just one -- U2. They were my first-ever concert (on my own) back in 1987.

2. Yes, I have bought albums by a couple of the above: U2, Guns n' Roses, Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Rolling Stones.

3. There are too many.

1) I have seen U-2, The Eagles, Paul McCartney. Elton John, The Rolling Stones (many times)

2) I've purchased music from all of the acts I mentioned in question 1.

3) I don't want to disparage any particular acts that I wouldn't see if I was paid to do so. In theory I'd go to almost any concert if someone gave me free tickets. As for actual "pay" - well my time is precious to me, so if I was going to be either bored or grossed out for 2 hours - the compensation would have to be hefty indeed. Would I be allowed to wear ear plugs?

I went to see LCD soundsystem and King Gizzard and the lizard wizard last year both great indie bands. I think one day King gizzard will be a global hit as they are all young and keen and very experimental with dual drummers.

I find music much closer to home, enriching my life, to be honest.

I'd go see Bryon Tosoff, Holworks, Phil Streets, Trip Poppies, Stoneman, Steve Ison, Jilly Wright, Francesca to name a few. The list could go on and on here at
IAC/IMP, only mentioning those that jump to mind, whose songs I've listened to in the last few days.

Maybe U2, tho I stopped listening to them around 1990 or so, except on the radio.

Viva indie music. Who needs the celebrities that have the inflated egos, and the A&R teams pumping them in the wings...

That list is boring. I want to see Mary Halvorson and/or Galina Vale. My two favorite female guitarists on the planet. Mary plays jazz and avant-garde; Galina plays Flamenco and Classical.

Mainstream artists attract mainstream fans and mainstream fans are resigned to the fact that supporting big names costs big bucks I guess.

It's hard to find lists of the highest paid Indie artists and bands because many of the best have since been signed to major labels. Obviously there are uncountable indie artists out there, so many in fact that most of us won't be familiar with them as yet.

It is easier than ever to become an indie artist today but it's harder than ever to capture significant recognition. To stand out in a vast crowd of talented (and untalented) musicians you need to sit on someone's shoulders, wave your arms about, shout and maybe lift your shirt !

My youngest daughter works at the Concord Pavillion. I get dirt cheap or free tickets to anyone I want to see with VIP parking.
Just gotta wait till you favorite band comes to town. Sometimes I go to see the new previous acts if I've seen the main ones several times.

I never have a shortage of Tee-shirts though.

Ha! Duane, I live right around the corner from the Pavillion. We go there all the time but not for free. Man, that must be great! Free tickets! There ain't a bad seat in the place. Lots of great artists perform there! Much Respect Brother!
