I had to smile at all the weird band and artist names, lots of them look like the were made by a band name generator don't you think?

I've heard of about 60% of them. Much of that mainstream stuff sounds the same to me, have probably heard them but just can't distinguish, not easy to do.

I actually listen to these: Frank Ocean, Tribe Called Quest, Chance the Rapper, and occasionally 2pac

Fifth Harmony had that one song out that was pretty good: I'm Worth It, but that's all I've heard of them.

Kendrick has some out there creative stuff, but I don't care for his voice. Kid Cudi has been pretty creative, but I don't listen much. Childish Gambino has a record out that reminds me of George Clinton. Creative, but I don't care for the voice.

The Weeknd has a pretty good voice, but I don't usually care for the material. He has that hit right now Starboy.

As famous as Arianna Grande is, I only heard her once. SHe performed on Saturday Night Live. It was actually a complex song. I thought she would be dance pop. She seemed talented to me and sincere.

I think there are a lot of creative people working hip hop these days.

Wow, that's impressive, I guess it's just me that needs to get out more. I'd love to find someone here who is as clueless as me now. Thanks folks.

Yeah, I haven't heard of most of these either. Only 11 of the names ring a bell for me, but some of them are really famous (like, big time world famous) and I am really surprised anyone may not know them. Like...

Fifth Harmony is a very popular girl group, one of those formed at X-Factor I think.

A Tribe called Quest is one of the oldest hip-hop groups, from the mid-80s; it's the one that famous rapper Q-Tip originates from. I am surprised they are still around.

Journey are a famous band - rock, pop-rock or something like that; has existed since the '70s, I think. I am not familiar with their music much, but I have heard the name many times and, considering they are such an old band, I thought everyone on IMP would have heard of them too.

2pac is one of the biggest names of hip-hop music of all time - a '90s West Coast rapper who got shot and killed in 1996 in Vegas. I thought not only his name, but even his story were familiar to most people around the world, even those that don't like the music and culture of hip-hop and rap.

James Arthur is another world famous singer, who I'd recognize by name, even though I don't like his music or his singing style. I think he won X-factor too.

The Weeknd is a world famous male R'n'B singer with a girlish voice, among the most popular ones in the mainstream right now.

Ariana Grande is a modern pop star and idol of teenagers, of the caliber and fame of the likes of Rihanna, Bieber and Miley. She is probably famous mostly because she is cute, but she seems to have a good high pitched voice too (unlike the low, whiny and unpleasant sounding alto voices of most of today's pop starlets).

Gucci Mane and Kendrick Lamar and modern rappers, I think. Not sure, as I don't care for the stuff people call "hip-hop" these days. But I've heard the names.

The Lumineers are an indie folk rock band, and while I don't listen to them, I'm guessing theirs is the exact type of music that is the most popular her on IMP. :)

"Panic! At the disco" is a rock and punk band I have heard of, even though I'm not that much into that kind of music, but I think they are very popular and successful.

I'm impressed that you all know as many as you do. Sometimes I recognize the songs, even know them quite well but I just didn't know who the artist was, they all have such weird, unmemorable names.

I don't think there are so many music shows and interviews on TV as there used to be when you got to know the bands better.

Wait, you think 11 is "many"? :P

Well, 15 or 20 years ago, when I used to follow mainstream music, watch MTV, etc., I would have probably recognized all of the names in a Top 40 chart...LOL

Hmm. I’ve seen Keith Urban (great show), listened to The Chainsmoker’s hit “Paris” (really catchy) and I like what I’ve seen/heard of Chris Stapleton on Youtube. I’ve heard of a handful of the others, but I’m completely in the dark for most of ‘em.

Just read Brian Wilson’s autobiography and that inspired me to look up his songs (with chords) online. And man, that is an education. If you want to get past the I IV V minorVI stuff, check him out.

Which is to say I’m stuck in the past and not minding it...

It's just that the artists mentioned above as known are unknown to me.
I used to be able to do the countdown in full, weekly, but the with names like

The Beatles,
The Beach Boys,
The Who,
The Rolling Stones,
The Doors,
The Faces,
The Four Seasons,
The Hollies,
The BeeGees,
The Righteous Brothers,
The Supremes,
The Ronettes,
The Walker Brothers,
The Velvet Underground,
The Police,
The Byrds,
The Kinks,

and many many more all starting with THE

Then one word artists

Nirvana,
Chicago,
Madonna,
Aerosmith,
Metallica,
Kiss,
Foreigner,
Blondie,
Queen,
Cream,
ABBA

Oh, there's too many, but the point is they were easier to bring to mind than Savage and the Metro Boomin and A Boogie wit da hoodie.

Maybe I should give up, let's face it your brain gets to a point where new stuff won't go in while the old stuff is ingrained in the memory. I don't even care what the band is called if I like the music.

I know 8 out of 54, but I only listen to Panic! At The Disco and huh, 2Pac is a legend so it's kinda hard not to know him even if you're not a fan of hip-hop?(unless there's a second 2pac, which I highly doubt). And Panic! At The Disco has been there since 2005 and they're one of my favorite bands since then. But the rest...I've never heard about them.
