Stories of Compulsion, got any?
Ever saw a car you had to have, a house, a love interest? Something that called out to you in an almost uncontrollable way?

Yeah, bought a Mazda 3 last year. Just had to have it when my PT Cruiser cruised out. But mostly, my compulsions are music gear, software and recording technology stuff. Most recently (yesterday) I bought over $3,000.00 dollars worth of Waves plug ins. I just had to have them after my royalty check arrived in my account. Usually my wife gives me an alternative perspective about this stuff but she was all for me getting them this time. God, I love that woman! Always been supportive of my music equipment needs. A supportive partner is a major plus if you have compulsions. Otherwise, there will always be tensions in the air. The other night I wsas watching a martial arts movie and Chuck Norris's commercial about his personal 24 hour fitness machine. Yep, you guessed. I bought that sucker! I have tons of work out gear already but for some reason I had to have the one that Chuck Norris (one of my favorite martial artists) was selling.

When I first saw my wife, she was 15 and I was 16. I had a girlfriend at the time, but I was right away obsessed. My friends said she was out of my league, but I knew what focus could do. Had to meet her three times before she remembered meeting me. One time I asked her for a pencil so I could talk to her. She gave me a pencil and then asked, “But what about the one behind your ear?”
Another time I asked to kiss her. She told me to ask my girlfriend. I broke up with that girl that day.

I played an acoustic Yamaha 335 from when I was 16 until I was 40, my only acoustic and I play acoustic a lot. One day I played a Gibson j100 in a store just for fun. Was not in the market for a guitar especially not one costing 1600. Couldn’t stop thinking about it for three months even though I never visited it. After three months I had to buy it. It’s a jumbo. Sounds so good.

Pieces of my song Endless went around haunting me for about three years daily. The idea first came in a dream. The idea just rode me until I could finally work out a meaning for what was always in my head.
It’s on my page.

But really, I face a compulsion toward music every moment of every day for decades. There are never times music isn’t pulling at me. I’m never tired of it, I’ve never had enough.

Bob, your first couple posts are good examples of what I was looking for. I have a patient who is so obsessed with a woman it's stunting his growth.

My obsession is both negative and positive and is getting to the point where I think I may run out of time to get what I want. The negative obsession is to die in a different county to where I was born and the positive obsession includes living by the sea.
All my life there were reasons/excuses why I couldn't make the move I dreamed about... family responsibilities.... work commitments.... money. Now, finally, I have everything sorted, I'm free to make my obsession a reality.... but I can't do it for a whole new set of reasons which I won't go into now but mainly I can't find the right property in the right place that ticks all the boxes.... because it's been so long coming I'm not prepared to compromise.
I got so depressed about this obsession that I even asked to be buried at sea if I didn't make it there in my lifetime ;(

I hesitate to discuss personal things on the internet but Verity's post inspired me to say something because the circumstances are somewhat similar. For years I pursued certain dreams without a real expectation that they would be realized. There were many obstacles in my path but one by one I managed to overcome these obstacles only to find myself in the present day with new and unexpected obstacles.
These new roadblocks may be impossible to drive through but I'm a pragmatic person and I'll have to find a way of living with the thoughts of how things could have been instead of how they are.

You ever notice how brash your grandparents talked to each other when you were little kids but never took offense seriously.
Well, my compulsion is pissing off my wife of 36 plus years.
I'm not worried cause now she hates cooking (unless the grand kids come over) and we eat out a lot.
